LGBT computers

Post by richmond62 » Thu Jul 05, 2018 3:10 pm

Just wondering . . .

https://twitter.com/jackitcomputers
We are a gay owned and run IT company that provides IT Support for home and Business users in the LGBT community
. . . why the sexual preferences of an IT professional should matter
to one if one has a problem with one's computer.

I cannot quite understand this:

Simply because you are not part of the LGTB community!

OK, Klaus.

We all love answers that aren't answers at all . . .
that's why so many people are apathetic and vote with their guts and not with their brains.

Maybe my "next trick" will be a computers and IT service for the Red-headed League:

I am with Richmond in wondering how IT can be in any way related to or affected by ones personal nature, predilection or lifestyle choice.

Computers and networks are so blind to such things.

I am intrigued, though. Can I get an example of such an exigency?

I would suspect it is not the actual tech that is affected, nor the method(s) to resolve problems, but more that they are spinning a relationship to a particular community promotion-ally just as many other businesses/groups do.

Of course it is, just like self-defense for women or cooking courses for men etc., you get the picture.

Richmond and Craig, did you really think this is a IT thingie?
Come on, you can't be serious!?

They may be referring to the prejudice and discrimination that can occur by some businesses that refuse to work fairly with people of different lifestyles. The implication is that LGBT customers can hire this company without fear of rejection. The US courts recently (and unfairly, in my view) ruled that the baker who refused to bake a cake for a gay couple was within his rights to do so. There have been similar incidents elsewhere, which leaves LGBT people unsure of how they will be treated when patronizing a business.

I did not think that IT was affected by personal lifestyle, only wondered why there was a need for such a business. But as Jacque points out, it has nothing to do with anything but feeling comfortable with the personnel involved. It is a sales tool, as mentioned, and there is nothing wrong with that sort of hook.

feeling comfortable with the personnel involved
I have (as a heterosexual man) never felt uncomfortable with gay
personnel: in fact there was a time in my life where I worked closely beside
a bloke I only found out was gay after we'd been working together 2 years for
the simple reason that we never had a need to discuss anything whatsoever to
do with our personal likes up until that point (which was when I asked him to supper
with myself and my wife and he asked if he could bring his male partner along as
well, at which point I said that would be just super).

Some of America's biggest game and other software companies have earned a reputation for themselves for operating like frat houses (giving rise to the term "brogrammer"). I can appreciate those wanting to support companies that value inclusion and mutual respect.
