The board changed?

Post by bogs » Mon Oct 02, 2017 10:31 pm

For a period of time, the boad was down today, when it came back up, it looks completely different?

Curious to know if there is a way for the user to put the previous look back?

Btw, noticed the shiny new https:// up top, thank you for that :D

Major update to the PHPBB used here. No going back, but little need: we now have HTTPS and responsive templates so the forum us very usable on phones, all the while preserving all content.

That's a good question, James. I could find the versions for MySQL and PHP, but the PHPBB version number isn't where it used to be and a quick poking around failed to turn it up. Do you know where I might find that in newer versions of PHPBB?

No. That’s why I asked.
Perhaps Heather or someone will make an announcement.

Is the digest still turned on? I haven't received one in several days. I'll look for it tomorrow

I received mine this am which is what alerted me to the change.
It was sent by the “LiveCode forum robot” and was clearly a new format.

The board is now fully up to date and running 3.2.1. It has a new theme and is mobile ready. It is https. It has fixed an issue with the digests so you are now getting them again (if you're signed up for digests). Seems like there is a small issue with the anti-spam settings which I'm currently attending to, but overall I'm very pleased. I hope you all are too :)

Regards,

Heather

Excellent.

It was a pain going through multiple page threads on the phone - Thanks

I think I wasn't being clear enough, I like all that even though I don't visit on a phone, and I thought we should have gone https long ago.

That was what I was asking about, whether or not the user could make it look like the old theme, which I found quite pleasing, not change any of the functionality or (goodness forbid) dump https

Not exactly a heavy weight issue, but having used bb forums in the past, I can't remember one that did not have the theme feature. I didn't see it above, but I *think* the board is using phpBB and they call it "Styles".
Styles
Styles change the appearance of your board. phpBB 3.x uses a powerful templating-system that keeps the PHP code separate from the HTML code and gives you complete freedom to customise your forum the way you want it.
Sorry again for any confusion Richard

No worries, Bogs. Looks like Heather came through with the info you were looking for.

It might be nice for PHPBB to offer per-user customization so each person can tailor the appearance. I suspect I'm probably just dreaming there.

I got a digest too today, I'm glad to see it back. Does yours wrap correctly? I read it on my tablet and there is no line wrap, so every paragraph runs off the side of the screen.

Please add the ".livecode" extension to the attachment allowed.
It's crazy that the livecode forum doesn't accept livecode files!!!

Another question, now the user panel permits to add own Facebook and youtube pages, but what is the correct format to insert these data?
I always get: The field “YouTube”/"Facebook" has invalid characters, only alphanumeric or _,-. characters are allowed and the first character must be alphabetic
