Thanks to all... the "wait... for messages" within the field examination command ... I was using it outside of this call ... THAT did the trick... the ACK now appears in the relevant field within the allotted time window and all's well with the world ... FOR THIS ISSUE.
So please let me, then, continue with on with the "subject: disconnect and re-connect to MergBLE" thread.. as I've just posted a long and hopefully informative response to bwmilby... and it is still an issue for me.
