That should work. I'm out of ideas, sorry.

Just remembered that an open socket will also prevent clean closure, but I assume your test stacks didn't do that either.

Anyway, not to worry. I just have a sneaking feeling, after several of these discussions over a wide range of topics over years, that my set-up is odd, that is, contains small gremlins that nobody else seems to ever encounter..

It might be a plugin. Rename or move your plugins folder and restart LiveCode, then try the simple test again.
