Bogs...

Baby...

That page is terrific. Thank you.

The stock dictionary, at least for me, is so slow it is unusable, though if I quit LC and open it immediately, it is fine. But that does not last long at all. I will ignore it from now on, and use the new one.

And thank you Brian M.

You my friend, are not alone, it is slow here no matter what else goes on. Glad I could help a bit :)

The problem I have with all third-party dictionaries is that they aren't integrated with the script editor. I use "find in docs" in the contextual menu a lot. I'd use Tiny Dictionary more (which I really like) except for this limitation.

On my iMac there is about a 2-second delay before the dictionary displays, but if I leave it open it works fine with no lag. I understand that isn't the case on Linux though.

And that...

...is how I use it a lot as well.

Heh, you got that right for sure. The first time I used it, I started typing in the search field as I had done many times before. I wasn't paying much attention to it, till I didn't see any of the characters I had typed show up, I thought I had some how crashed it. About 3 or 4 seconds later, they showed up, and 1-2 seconds after that the entry showed up.

I can't say it is 'unusable' on linux, but it is the next closest thing, enough to make you use almost anything else. It has been getting better, but even if it were some how perfect for speed, the sheer size and weird behavior with other palettes in the IDE would make me go else where.

Lc 9 dp10 can also be almost unusable on Windows. Literally 30 seconds between keystroke responses if "some things" happen. Not sure what things but prime suspects are the auto updater running in the background (which has always had the potential to hang lc) and the cef browser instance if the dictionary is opened.

Mark Waddingham found the delayed typing problem on Windows and says they've done something to fix it. I guess we'll see in the next release. They also know about the Linux dictionary issue but I'm not sure where that's at.

Thanks Jwack.
I will eagerly anticipate testing dp11

It is not obvious how Jacque pronounces her name. But "Jwack" sound like something from an early Star Wars film.

Craig, did you find out what caused the error? Is it still happening?

Hey, I read that story (and many others) after contacting you about the Mc IDE setup file! Oh the memories...

Still happening now and then. No idea how to cause it. Dismissing the dialog box does nothing good or bad to anything or anyone.

A handful of issues reared their heads when I committed to moving everything I own to v.8. Not surprising, really. Most are rather mysterious, each having its own thread on this forum. But I am working mainly without too much trouble, so I do not regret anything.

For example, simply changing the script editor font made the scrolling jerkiness go away. The team is investigating, but believes it is something to do with OS 10.9 (Mavericks), and not with installed RAM. I am upgrading anyway. Who knows?

I even have gotten used to the ugliness.

Craig
