Hello everyone,

I'm new here having downloaded and installed LiveCode for the first time a month ago. I can't believe how quickly the time has passed.

Anyway, I thought I'd take the time to introduce myself and say hello. I have coded before - many years ago, in Pascal. Anyway, I'm very excited about LiveCode and hope to create great software with it. Right now I am writing my first real app that will take user input and generate an HTML file.

I also look forward to being an active member of the Community and hope I can also give back from time to time.

Pascal is a good place to come from when learning LiveCode. Both are among the few languages that make a distinction between commands and functions. And Pascal has a reputation for being more verbose than C, but those who know it well appreciate how much work gets done in each line - just like LC.

I recall that HyperCard was written, at least initially, almost wholly in Pascal, because that is what Bill Atkinson "spoke".

He also "spoke" assembler, because that is what the QuickDraw routines in the ROM were written in so that he could use every byte of every processor cycle that he could. He highly optimized those routines because they were used everywhere, for every single bit (pixel) that went onto the screen.

"Spoke" was Atkinson's word.

Apple jealously guarded the blazingly fast find routines of HC, one of the things that set it apart. I do not know if it was Bill or Dan Winkler, or both, who labored to make that happen. They were likely assembler-based.

Welcome, I am sure you will grow to love LC like I have (depending on what you want to achieve).
