License, how it works?

Post by MaxV » Thu Feb 01, 2018 10:22 am

Hi,
the company where I work is evaluating the idea to buy a license. We have a lot of computers in different offices, both Windows and Linux, but just a programmer.

If I buy a license that license will work only on the pc where I install it, or if I switch pc, I can enter the license on another PC?
Will the license will always work because there it will always just a license working at the same time?

Is license per type? For example if I buy a Indy, can I activate and use all versions of livecode (7, 8 and 9) to Indy?

Buongiorno Max,

you can install LC on many machines but only if you work on one machine at a time!
So this is no multi-user license, just for ONE person (with many comupters).
Is license per type? For example if I buy a Indy, can I activate and use all versions of livecode (7, 8 and 9) to Indy?
Don't think so, but better ask Heather to be sure: support@livecode.com

LiveCode Commercial Questions (4)
Q.) Can I install LiveCode on more than one computer?
A.) Yes. Your purchased commercial license is a single developer license, belonging to you personally. You can install it on as many platforms and devices as you personally are using. As long as you do not share the license or licensed copy with anyone else, you are not in breach of our EULA.
Will the license will always work because there it will always just a license working at the same time?
(Not sure I understood this correctly, but I think it was closest to this one...)
Q.) Can I continue to build closed source apps if my Commercial license expires?
A.) To build closed source apps you must have a valid current Indy, Business or other commercial license. If you do not renew this license your access to LiveCode will revert to the Open Source edition and you will no longer be able to build closed source apps.
Is license per type? For example if I buy a Indy, can I activate and use all versions of livecode (7, 8 and 9) to Indy?
I couldn't find a direct answer to that one, only if you had an older license. I would do as Klaus suggested, Heather will know for sure.
(Closest I could find in reverse )
Q.) I have a license for an older version of LiveCode. Is there an upgrade path?
A.) If your license has already expired (i.e. it does not have any term left on it or is not for the latest version) then you will need to purchase our new subscription licenses or use the Community Edition for free. We now offer an all-platform annual license for users that require a Commercial license to create closed source commercial software.

At the present livecode development grow on different paths, Livecode 8 and Livecode 9.
So I need to use both, do I need to buy 2 licenses?
I'd like to use also livecode 7, because on Linux for many things is still the best.
So do I need to buy 3 licenses?

Yah, I couldn't find any clarification on that particular kind of question. I'd really do like Klaus suggested, and contact Heather, she'd know for sure.

I’ve had Indy and Business... you can use 6 and up with that license. 5 and earlier do not unlock with the current license.
