Monetizing Your Apps when using LiveCode

We have just begun to focus on using LiveCode, though we have developed many Apps using the "other" platforms. :-)

Curious if Anyone has experience on how to incorporate banner ads from an ad network like admob in a livecode App?
Most of these ad networks have API's designed for JAVA(android) and Objective-C (for apple apps).

They are Not exactly intended to work with LiveCode Apps - yet being able to monetize your app is critical.

As far as I am aware, this is the only working option at this point in time. It's not great.

You are right - that is awful, and only does 2 platforms. Full screen intro/exit ads are really annoying as well - banners are less obtrusive.

I appreciate the post. Not being able to monetize an phone/tablet app is a severe short coming that I was surprised to discover. :-|

mergBanner one of Monte's iOS externals now comes with your Indy license. You can download all of the mertExt externals from LC when you login.

Not much use to Android developers...

Indeed - The whole appeal to LiveCode is the multi-platform aspect. So using widgets/controls that only work for 1 platform sort of defeats that purpose. :-)

I wouldn't let this issue put you off Livecode altogether though, it's definitely a great tool. As I understand it, the software as a whole is kind of in the middle of a massive transformation. I expect/hope that a lot of these things will be cleared up by the time a stable release of LC8 is available.

I agree with you, except that I have no indication from LiveCode about that, despite several emails to support pointing out how CRITICAL it is, if they truly want to stay competitive in IOS/Android App development that developers be able to monetize their Apps.

We have tried every model available when monetizing our Apps, and found in-App ads, when properly placed, to be the easiest way to receive recurring income. To not be able to do that is...a significant failing.

LC previously had a contract with an ad company that allowed us to insert in-app ads. That contract is no longer in effect. As I understand it, they are looking for a suitable replacement but nothing has been announced yet.

I heard that too, but for a week have had no response from LC on the issue.

What we need is an external that works with both IOS and android API's for Google's AdMob banners (in our experience, the best supported and probably largest network).

If we had the time/resources, we would create one and sell it in the marketplace, but alas, we don't. :-)

Monte, who authored the merg* externals, is working with LC to support the externals on Android too. He's probably your best bet.

True - I read a post on their page from 2013 talking about that, but no response to a query about progress I sent on his site. :-)

Do ad APIs require binary interfaces? Haven't most of them moved to simple REST APIs these days?

It varies - but most of big guys like admob (google), revmob, leadbolt, etc. are not using rest.
