I think the idea is for app advertising to be part of the Widgets 2 project.

If you look at the bottom of this page

https://livecode.com/project/infinite-livecode/

at the Example section, the second stated is
In-app advertising libraries for banners and advertising in your apps
How far advanced this is unknown ....

A while back one of our forum members found an ad network offering REST APIs, suitable for use with an LC browser object. I was just trying to search for it though and came up empty - anyone else here recall which network that was?

I have been doing research on this issue, for a project I am working on.

I feel like the best solution is to use a javascript/html interface with ad providers. That way, it does not depend on plugins that might eventually become outdated. I also think it is a terrible idea to become locked into a single ad provider. I am going add notes here about ad service companies that provide a mobile web/html5 interface. This method should work for all of the platforms that we sometimes use.

So far, I have found that the following ad service companies provide a mobile web interface. Here they are by product name and the webpage that mentions mobile web interface:

Millennial Media: docs.millennialmedia.com/mmadlib/index.html
Mopub: http://www.mopub.com/resources/docs/mob ... tegration/
MobFox: www.mobfox.com
Hunt (Spanish speaking market): http://www.mobyaffiliates.com/mobile-ad ... obile-ads/
InMobi: https://support.inmobi.com/monetize/int ... obile-web/
Mojiva: welcome.mojiva.com
RevMob: https://www.revmobileadnetwork.com
Smaato: https://www.smaato.com

Other ad providers might also offer a mobile web interface. As I learn more, I will add more to this list. In my readings so far, I am drawn to MobFox because it seems that their html5 interface works for their ad mediation service, which is likely to generate more revenue than pulling straight from a single ad provider.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Hey guys,
My name is Shahaf, I'm a product researcher at the Mobfox team and a mobile app developer in my free time.

And as far as I know JonathanLynch got it right.
Using a javascript/html interface is the best way I know to monetize your LiveCode app
And though I may sound a little biased, but yes, Mobfox is your best choice for monetizing your LC app.

Here's the Instructions:

Thanks for chiming in here, Shahaf. Given the expense of attempting to implement binary interfaces to support ad networks, it's nice to see RESTful APIs like Mobfox uses.

I appreciate your willingness to help our developer community make good use of Mobfox, and if there's anything I can do to help with integration needs please feel free to write me anytime.

Hi Shahaf,

I also asked this question directly to MobFox (just sent it to them, so no answer yet), but I am asking here since it is relevant to the LC community and might inspire more discussion on the topic.

Mobfox provides ads for websites and mobile apps. Are we allowed to also use those mobile apps on desktop versions of our apps? LiveCode is unique in that we can make a single app and deploy it to iOS, Android, PC, Mac, and Linux. It would be really nice to have a single ad provider that can give us keys and javascript code so that we can pull in ads no matter what platform our users are using.

think ads in the things i make, will be bad, but the most useful thing i have made, is a program to count colour pages in a pdf, using Ghostscript.

wonder if something like patreon would be useful on something like that?

Hi guys,
As you know, MobFox only serve ads on mobile web and mobile apps. no desktop.
In the past few days I've been talking to our Development and our Strategy staff about this topic to see what can be done to help you guys.
but sadly, the answer stayed the same for the following reason -
In order to serve ads to a desktop browser we need to have desktop DSP's connected to our exchange. No shortcuts for this.
and at this moment, as you probably realized - this is not the case.
So registering a desktop app through the mobile web category will not work as our servers will identify it as a Desktop user-agent and will not send ads.
Mobile web is only for a mobile browser.
I'm sorry, I know that's not what you were hoping to hear but at this point there's not much more I can do about it.
I'll keep you guys updated in case anything changes on that subject

Shahaf.

Hi Shahaf,
I've just ben going through your SDKs and Javascript GitHub docs. At the end of the later it mentions that we would need to install NodeJS to run and test our apps. Do you have any suggestions how we do this on our Livecode iOS/Android apps? I am keen to get this up and running very soon (within the next two weeks). It's either MobFox or Smaato that are going to come up trumps and this is my main hurdle in MobFox.

All the best

Sean

Not to worry Shahaf,
I've figured it all out now. No need for Node.JS when requesting directly from the device. All we need to do is send the query, parse the XML that gets returned and then encapsulate the html that is in the CDATA tag. This also has the link built into it for when the user clicks the ad.
I still have some playing to do but I will then be able to supply a library for the greater LC community.

Hi seaniepie

Can you share your LC sample using mobfox?
