Is there a pdf tutorial for learning offline?
Hello!
I just downloaded LiveCode yesterday. I cannot be connected to the internet all the time. Are there any downloadable tutorials available for learning offline? Thanks.

In the IDE's toolbar you'll see a button labeled "Resources" - click it and you'll find a 378-page PDF User Guide, already installed and waiting for you.
The Resource stack also has dozens of tutorials and example stacks.
When you've finished with those let us know what else you need and we'll help you find it.

I went to the site you referred and read there: "Don't know what a stack is? Don't know your background from your backyard?" That's pretty much my situation at this point. I wish someone could post a link to a pdf tutorial file I can open and save to my PC. Thanks for your help though.

Are you saying that 378-page User Guide was installed on my PC automatically after I downloaded LiveCode? Or do I still have to be connected to the internet to access it? I'm still lost. I'll try to find it if I can. If you or anyone else knows about a link to a pdf tutorial file I can open and save to my PC, it'll be a big help. Thanks a lot for everything.

The user guide ships with LiveCode and is embedded in the installation. When you click the link in the Resources stack, it will open provided you have a PDF reader app. The guide is a local file on disk.
The user guide is the second item down on the left side of the Resources stack.

1) Do a search in the upper right of this forum for "Beginner Tutorial Stack" and you'll find a stack to download that might help, though not a PDF.
2) Yes the LC User Guide PDF is already on your computer. In windows, start > type "LiveCode User Guide" and it should show up as a clickable link. Pin the link to easily return again without having to startup LiveCode.

Klaus, Richard, Jacque, TerryL,
Thanks! All you guys, you were terrific with really fast responses and great pointers. As Richard said, it was right under my nose all the time. I'll start reading and doing now. Maybe when I run into other obstacles you'll see me back here in a few days, asking more dumb questions.

I look forward to your "dumb questions". We all start out with seemingly-dumb questions, and after we post enough of those we move on to slightly-less-dumb questions, which is where I've been stuck for the last several years.

I love dumb questions! They allow me to find answers without exposing my own ignorance.

By the way, if someone wants to kick the tires before actually downloading LiveCode, the link would be www-scribd-com/doc/133073862/LiveCode-User-Guide

Re: Is there a pdf tutorial for learning offline?
Jack,
Welcome to LiveCode. Tooting my own horn here. LiveCode University is a complete course on learning to program with LiveCode, and after downloading and registering, it works just fine offline. See http://university.livecode.com. There is a free trial, plus they had been offering a free license for a while. I don't know if that is still going on.
Best of luck,
Devin

You're darn tootin' on the ball with this one. I'm glad you happened by. Just downloaded LCU and got 10 days for free to play with it. Will see about the license later, because I don't know what that is about or if I even need it. Thanks.
Re: Is there a pdf tutorial for learning offline?
If you log in to your LC account, you'll find the LiveCode University free license, username and key are right on the first log in page. Good to have it functional for more than 10 days, it's a good reference material as well.jackpujji wrote:Just downloaded LCU and got 10 days for free to play with it.
