I tend to avoid abbreviations when possible, because a lot of the stuff that I do in livecode ends up being taken by a "real" developer and used as the basis for creating an application in another, corporate approved language like c(variant of the week) or java. If my stuff is all spelled out the developer gets text files of the scripts and to him it's basically pseudo code for him to use when walking through the algorithms.

That said, char, loc (pronounced lowk), rect, and a few others that have been mentioned aren't abbreviations; they are perfectly cromulent words.

Yeah, that's why I specified that anything with a vowel in it isn't really an abbreviation.
