MobGUIcons - icons for your apps

Post by splash21 » Tue Jan 14, 2014 3:37 pm

I'll post an updated plugin soon - after I've managed to test the latest changes :) A vertical slider and icon buttons have been added. The icon buttons can act as tab bar buttons or normal buttons and will be able to reference image objects or use icon fonts. I've attached the icons I've got so far - these will also be bundled with MobGUI as TTF fonts. The fonts can be used royalty free in your apps - if there are any icons that would be good to have then let me know and I can maybe sneak them in.

MobGUIcons - filled state and normal state.

I've just installed the first font and it's showing up OK in LiveCode. I've used a-z for the normal icons and A-Z for the filled icons.
The normal inbox icon is 'q' and the filled inbox icon is 'Q', etc. so switching from lowercase to uppercase or uppercase to lowercase switches the icon state.
I've avoided the number keys as the shifted symbols can vary for different keyboards types.

Awesome!

Any chance for an icon or 2 of a barcode (i.e., used on a button which invokes a barcode scanner)?

OK - I've been testing the new icon buttons with id's of image objects referencing image files and the icon fonts;
  • The images are switching to the correct @2x for retina
  • The font icons are looking good as the text size scales automatically for retina :D
It's looking like the icon fonts will be worth the effort - I'd definitely create more if there's a demand for them.

There certainly is - I could begin a new font file with a few characters and just add to it as more icons are created....

Hi John,

How are the icons used? 'On touch' shows the filled icon? Or is it possible to show the same outline icon with a different color 'on touch'?
The default behavior on iOS 7 is now an outline icon which show a lighter color blue 'on touch' and this is what I would like to add to my app.

greetings,

William

Only needed by the nerdiest of nerds. I would love to have all of the interface components of LCARS for making Star Trek themed apps easily. Corner buttons, multi-color pipes, and of course a distributable version of the LCARS text font. If you make it so, you'll be number 1 in my paad. :)

I've tried to keep it flexible! When a button is touched, it can change color then change back when released - like a normal button. It can also act like a tab option button and change the icon to a filled icon, also deselecting any other buttons with the same parent and switching them back to default state. You can mix any combination of changing color, changing icon (doesn't have to be filled or line) or even specifying the id of an image object. I've got a great update coming up (IMHO) that I was hoping to get out today, but I've made so many tweaks and changes to try to get to what I think is good enough to label 'V1.0' that it looks like it will be tomorrow.

8) I'm sure LCARS is possible! But like Deep Thought's task in HHGG - it may take a while :P

Just a quick observation, After playing with the new "almost version 1.0", I noticed that 1 or 2 icons seem to be missing / overlooked. mobgui-icons1 includes an icon for downloading from the cloud (cloud with downward pointing arrow), but there is no corresponding icon for uploading to cloud. Also, I'd suggest a Cloud Sync icon. Other than the minor quirk, I am really liking the new version with the icons. Great job, John!

mobguicons-3 is in the works....

cloud sync arrows could be a bit bigger and the barcode's a bit small, but it's a start
Seems sensible to group all the cloud icons together

Wow! That was fast. I figured it'd take a few days at least to get the cloud icons.
