iPad screen and display on PC monitor while developing
Hi
This question is asked as I am obviously still in the early stages of learning Livecode and MobGui for iPad - I did everything for iPhone thus far and therefore never had to deal with the larger "development space/area" - silly one I know.
When I have the development screen set to iPad Portrait - I cannot see/get to the bottom of the iPad screen area as my monitor (21" Mac ??) seems to block the iPad development space scrolling up beyond the top menu bar and will not scroll down far enough to allow me to see the bottom of the iPad devlopment screen. So, my TabBar and associated buttons are basically "off-screen" and access thereto during development becomes impossible.
I clearly missed something very basic in the forums, lessons and documentation. Please help as it is becoming a very frustrating excercise.
Kind regards
Danny

Danny,
I believe you can change the display scale in the View menu (or maybe Window menu) in the iPad simulator.
Kind regards,
Mark

Hi Mark
Thank you for your prompt response - will have a look when I get to my PC in an hour or so. This is not while running it in the simulator - it is while doing screen layouts in the IDE.
Regards
Danny

Hi Danny,
I don't see a way to do this without a much bigger monitor. Also, I'm not sure that it makes sense to make retina-compatible apps with LiveCode. Still, you could make a 768x1024 app and scale it up with a script when you open it on a retina iPad. It would be a long script, though
Kind regards,
Mark

Re: iPad screen and display on PC monitor while developing
Hi Mark
I am using MobGui and the display size of the iPad is set to non-retina size of iPad automatically.
How much bigger must my PC monitor then be than 20" to do development in LC for iPad? I know, not your question to answer but one that someone must have asked and answered over the years of Livecode being used to develop iOS apps for iPad
Kind regards
Danny

Hi Danny,
I'm slightly confused. Isn't the non-retina size of theiPad 1024x768? In that case, any resolution larger than that should be sufficient.
Kind regards,
Mark

Re: iPad screen and display on PC monitor while developing
Danny, what is the resolution of your Mac set to? I realise it's a 20", but if your screen resolution is set to less than 1024 high then you are going to have difficulty in developing in portrait mode.
My recommendation is to purchase a cheap second monitor that can do a higher vertical resolution (and a connecting cable adaptor) if necessary. Development of any App is usually a *lot* easier when you have multiple monitors too.
Nowadays I can't really work on any machines that don't have at least two monitors!! It just doesn't feel right
I use a 24" iMac (1920x1200) with a really cheap Acer (1920x1080) second screen which seems to be a nice combo - still can't do 1:1 Retina iPad apps though
Cheers,
Dave

Hi Dave
Thanks for your kind feedback. My MAC resolution is 1680x1050 - MobGui defaults to 768 x 1024 - so its not retina size?

Hi Mark & Dave
Lot simpler solution to all of this - only did setting to hide my "dock" and all was revealed ! Sorry guys, I am new to this development environment and have to learn some VERY basic "tricks" along the way.
Kind regards
Danny
PS I note that both of you are very active on this forum - thank you sincerely for being so patient and helpfull - idiots like me who are trying to develop something while still struggling with basics of the platform we are working on really appreciate it

Hi Danny,
We were all there once (and I still am!) and so it's good to try to help others who are also becoming the next 'generation' of helpers for the newcomers.
There is nothing wrong with asking questions - as long as they are clear questions and we can all benefit from the answers given.
That's what communities are for
Cheers,
Dave
