OT: Connect Weekend in Pasadena

Post by FourthWorld » Tue Feb 25, 2014 1:49 am

Thursday March 13 through Sunday the 16th the Innovate Pasadena group has brought together a wide range of events to promote entrepreneurship and technology startups in Pasadena - from their web site:
Join us in celebrating innovation in the Greater Pasadena area for an inaugural citywide weekend of talks, panels, hack and code events, open-houses and mixers. This is a unique opportunity to explore and learn more about the key institutions, companies and people in the vibrant tech and design ecosystem in the Northeast side of Los Angeles.

You’ll have the opportunity to connect with movers and shakers in Pasadena’s rich density of innovation and creativity, including entrepreneurs as well as the business, academic, civic and professional communities.

The CONNECT Weekend launches with a kickoff party on Thursday night and concludes with a closing event on Sunday. In between, collaborator events will showcase the inventors, scientists, and reachers that make the Greater Pasadena area a prime place for difference makers and disruptors.

Those who enjoy code jams may be especially interested in Hack for Pasadena:
Hack for Pasadena is two-days of open sourced talks and hands-on problem solving, to re-imagine the way the web, applications, technology, and community participation will shape the future of the City of Pasadena. Hack for Pasadena brings together the tech community with businesses, nonprofits, academia and city officials to work together to solve complex social problems through technology innovation. Anyone can pitch an idea or problem. Ideas may range from coming up with creative ways to address the city's biggest challenges like homelessness, transportation, crime, affordable housing and public safety, to beautification projects and business ideas that will make the city more livable. From there, small groups form to brainstorm solutions and start tackling the issue with design and code. Publicly accessible data sets will be used to support the solutions. At the end of two days, each group will present a workable solution that improves the daily life for real people in our community.
