Well, on Mac I highly recommend Vectornator https://www.vectornator.io
It's free, full of great features, and you'll struggle to find a better vector image editor on Mac, especially for the price... but it is Mac-only.
I use this all the the time to create icons and SVGs, really can't recommend enough...

Vpaint is cross-platform (if working on 3 operating systems really constitutes 'cross-platform').
