Just to be clear(er) in the question, I am not saying that if you write an application on (OS x), you should not test it on (OS y) before deployment, that is a good practice.
Of course that's both good practice and plain common sense: you wouldn't sell an all-terrain car tyre before you'd driven it across the
Okavango delta and the Sahel unless you really had an urge to end up in court and possibly prison.

That is one point; but LiveCode's statement that you can build MacOS standalones on Windows and Linux is a bit disingenuous:
Yes, you can build MacOS standalones on Windows and Linux but they won't work on MacOS. :?

Thank you for testing Jean-Marc Image

It is odd that it decompressed automatically, is this a new feature in Mojave, or a settings option? As far as I'm aware, if you download a zip file, it shouldn't decompress automatically

Hm. That is a good question, unfortunately, I have no equally good answer :(

When you download it, if you follow the steps I outlined in this post, you should wind up with a zip file that you have to extract manually, not an automatically extracted one. The only way I know of to end up with an extracted file is if you try downloading it from the side bar download, which downloads the contents of the zip (theoretically), but in practice is highly un-reliable.

*Edit, after some testing around with it, try this link instead, which should directly download the zip file -

On a Macintosh you can set your download preferences so that a document is automatically opened by a defined application.

One can set things so that a ZIP file is automatically unzipped.

I don't do that after, a long time ago, I unzipped a file that then did "funny" things to my operating system.

Well that would certainly explain it, thank you again Richmond!

I certainly wouldn't recommend auto-unzipping things your downloading, Jean-Marc, for much the reason stated in Richmond's post, if that is indeed what went on.

Well: I did then click on the app, and all hell broke loose . . .

My anti-virus software scans ZIP files (and other compressed files) BEFORE
they are decompressed and flags them if it believes them to be wonky (at which time I bin them):
but, foolishly, I let the download thing do a decompression so the anti-virus procedure was sidestepped. :(

I successfully unzipped the file with the Unarchiver:

https://theunarchiver.com/

"The Unarchiver is the only app you need to open RAR on Mac.
It’s times more powerful than the native macOS utility and
supports infinitely more archive formats."

Mainly because the built-in macOS unzipper seems to be unable to unzip
a lot of archives.

Yah, I use unar cli myself, both on 'nix and Snow Leopard. I wonder if it is possible the extraction is where it is failing for JM and Kdjans, or if it is something else entirely.

downloaded to macOS 10.15.5
unzipped
double-clicked testinterface application
You can’t open the application “testInterface” because it is not supported on this type of Mac.

Bizarre heh. I wonder why such vague errors now. On SL 10.6.7, it said I needed a specific version (10.9 or later). JM and JL both just get a generic "unable to open" message.

Richmond, you said your running Catalina, right? Which vers. is that? JM, JL, what version of OSX are you two running?

double-clicked testinterface application
Double-clicking something is the lowest common denominator: try doing a right-button click and see what options are offered.
