The timing couldn't be more unfortunate, with LC's current measurable growth.

Was that one of Scott McDonald's sites? Whoever it is, I wonder if the content had been migrated elsewhere.

If not I would be happy to provide hosting for it at LiveCodeJournal.com.

That is sad as I have been directing boys and girls who can't work out that programming
can be of any use other than to make games over there.

That was turning them onto LiveCode . . .

, , , then sadistic Richmond, in class, was getting them to do other things 8)

I am going to miss it, it was a pretty comprehensive and thorough way to go about explaining how to wring a lot of performance in the areas it covered. I had originally picked up the link from this page.

Can't remember who authored the site, hopefully someone knows and can contact them.

I've actually been think a lot on how to go about doing a 2D fighter engine in the vein of M.U.G.E.N in LiveCode 9 to produce games in the style of 16bit fighters like Super Street Fighter, but with vectors (SVG) rendered characters and maybe background art loaded into memory in Global Arrays for fast access. The new SVG Rendering into image boxes this way seems quite fast to me. I did some benchmark testing with a deck of SVG Playing cards including some fairly complex face cards (on different CPUs/GPUs, which of course effects render speeds), reducing complexity can shave off a few microseconds here and there.
There's probably never been a better time to try it. Maybe someone will wrap a nice JoyStick lib in LCB!

Another blip has fallen off the radar, so to speak. I was browsing Lc's site looking at articles, when I came across this page. After a humorous read, I started clicking on the links at the bottom, and what a surprise (for me), the livecode tips and tricks pdf can no longer be found

I'm sure glad I downloaded it long ago for myself, but I can't even begin to remember how many other people I pointed to it for one (of the many) decent things listed in it :|

Indeed:

"Would you like to go to homepage instead?"

No, I wouldn't, and I don't think much of
a page that cannot even manage a grammatically correct question.

The best resource I've seen (and used) is at:

https://sites.google.com/a/pgcps.org/li ... rogramming

I've been gone from the forums for about 5-6 years, but have been using LiveCode at work doing server stuffs, and I've just decided to jump back into game making. The above site is a really concise set of directions which I've found invaluable.

Today I figured out how to do the Galaga-style two shots in a row (as opposed to the Galaxian single shot at a time.) Man, I forgot how addictive and fun game programming is. There's a lot of online interest in the classic arcade/computer games out there. People are still writing new games for the Commodore 64. LiveCode has the goods to be able to do all kinds of stuff. I'm fairly certain it can do a decent Galaga-style space shooter.

Oh yes, pgcps is another site I've bookmarked and sent a lot of people to, lots of great information there for sure.

Thanks! :)

I had a little hobby software company with my buddy Chris about 5 years ago. We made educational apps and had two iOS apps in the App Store. But Chris got hired to be an Apple SE, and they basically told him he couldn't put out software for iOS on the side, so we stopped. After that, I lost interest and have just been using LiveCode to automate server stuff. Like checking all of our WordPress databases for injected scripts.

I've gotten really into the whole Classic Arcade culture online, and started coding for fun again, and here I am. :)

I reached out to Scott, who ran LiveCodeGameDeveloper, and he replied today. Scott is kindly mirroring the website at http://thelivecodelab.com/livecodegamedeveloper/, so while I'm not sure how frequently it will be updated, all the content is still available.
