Maybe we do need an offline community group where we can discuss issues, concerns and questions with a point person. That representative could relay and discuss those with the company and returns with answers and information.
That's pretty much the definition of Richard's role as Community Liason.
In the end, if LiveCode don't start responding, they will start suffering; in fact they may already have done so as commercial uptake seems pretty slim.
How would you know that? They don't publish that info. However, last I heard, they're very pleased with uptake lately.

That's great.

However I came across a 30% figure.

As a non-professional LiveCode programmer, I was hesitant to enter the treacherous waters of this discussion, but decided I may have a point or two to contribute!

1. MaxV has contributed enough (his website and wiki) to be taken seriously as someone who truly cares about LC, not a troll. I was amazed at the degree of umbrage his choice of topic name has generated! And, discussion of LC's future is exactly the kind of thing this forum is meant for. By the way, I found MaxV's list of alternate topic titles hilarious! A sense of humor is what differentiates an interest group from a religion.

2. The simplest way to respond to the question "Is LiveCode dead?" is to provide growth statistics (absolute and relative - to competition). Given hard numbers are company secrets that LC wouldn't want to share, there are surrogate variables that could be computed from public data. If you assume that this forum is (one of) the main resource for new programmers learning LC (especially, community edition), the growth in new members who ask newbie questions could be one metric. I'd be particularly interested in how LC is growing as compared with Xojo (LC's closest competitor in terms of product positioning).

3. Can there not be a public area (on this forum or on the LC website) where suggestion could be made and LC respond as they seem fit. Does it have to be through private communication?

4. MaxV's comment on the "Lego website" is spot on. It screams "This product is a toy, not a serious programming language!". I wonder if they had it looked at by a professional marketing person. This is quite apart from the success of A/B testing tactics, and has to do with longer-term strategy.

Anyway, I don't mean to stir up the hive -- just surprised that there is less discussion of the topic than about the topic!

Regards,
Sri

Pretty sure the majority of that happened in the first 3 full pages :D

MaxV is simply an extremist in *both*

• his support for LiveCode and
• his criticism of LiveCode.

MaxV is even out-doing me.

This is rather a relief: maybe, now, I can morph
into a pleasant, cuddly sort of forum and list user 8)

Another secret feature
Wait a mo' - I thought LiveCode was meant to be cross-platform: we Linux and Macintosh users
want our equivalent secret features . . .

The "secret feature" for us is, we don't even get the undocumented feature on our OS because it is too secret to work there

Hi guys
Not sure if this is the right place to put this but here goes.
I have an Indy licence, I never had to upgrade in the past
as I have taken advantage of the marketing special deals
mailed to me that usually popped up in my email everytime
just a month prior to the expiry date.
Of which the last one was a sort of locked in price per year
for X amount from now until forever with the provisor that my
total turnover does not exceed a certain amount per year.
This brings me to my question. Will I be notified prior to
the expiry date with an option to renew my subscription,
should I contact sales and what happens when I fail to
renew prior to the expiry date. In other word does one get a
few days grace?

Thanks
Peter G

Just some observations this year;

- Only 3 blog posts.
- Last post on Facebook from May 23rd.
- Have anyone heard about the results of the competition that was held earlier this year?
- Last "Announcement" from LC here in the forum - nothing this year (last was in October last year).

On the positive side;
- Posts on Twitter regarding a FileMaker event in NY a little more than a week ago.
- Some updates on youtube, which is great.

My opinion is that if there is a blog/Facebook/Twitter/Announcement" in the forum/competitions - these things should be kept updated. If not possible - it's better to remove them so it doesn't look bad/dead.

The current blog posts are pretty long and well-written. But I wouldn't mind a lot shorter ones (quicker to write) as well. It can be a presentation of different staff members, short tips and tricks, simple showcases with how different customers are using LiveCode (great marketing for both your product and the customer), other inspirational stuff how to use the product. Nothing big or fancy - but just something.

Regards,
Tom

Just a quick look at Xojo (which might be a bigger player - I don't know);

- Very active social media (too many posts in August to count, both on Twitter/Facebook)
- 4 blog posts in August alone
- Currently running #JustCode weekly Challenge (with some prizes)

It wouldn't require that much at all (IMHO and from what I see) to step up the marketing efforts (without too much money)... especially when they are seemingly close to zero at this point. (of course I don't have the whole picture... I only react to what I see... or more like what I don't see)

It hurts a little bit in my heart when I don't see these simple steps done to a product that is pretty good and easy to use.

Regards,
Tom
