Free hosting
I know most people on here already have a web host and what not, but if anybody needs any hosting space, whether for a site or just a secondary file mirror for downloads, let me know.. This is 100% free, no ads (you can have them, just not from me).. You have the option of getting a sub-domain under me (http://my-stuff.shaosean.tk/) or if you already have a domain name and just want a secondary file mirror for downloads, you can have a sub-domain under your existing domain point to my server..
A little bit about the server machine..
- Mac mini (late 2012); 8 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD
- Mac OS X 10.11.6
- MAMP Pro 4.0.6 (web server, MySQL and PHP)
- CrushFTP 8.0.2_2 (included web-based FTP)
- the connection is 100 Mbps up and down
Any other questions, feel free to reply to this thread so others may get the answers as well.. If you're interested in it, message me or email me <shaosean AT hotmail DOT com>

Re: Free hosting
Where did you find connectivity line that? Hard to find 100 up in my neck of the woods.

Re: Free hosting
Not currently, but I can look in to installing it if it something that would be of use to you and others..
Oh, and there has been a slight change, it is no longer a sub-domain under my domain.. I have a new domain http://openwebhost.tk/ where everything will be hosted (it's the same server, just a different domain).. It's a work in progress, but if anybody is interested, I can still host (that part works, just the web site is a work in progress)

Re: Free hosting
Just an update, all sites now get SSL..
Re: Free hosting
Really nice!
Have you benchmarked the features of your server with help from users
that live in different parts of the world?

Re: Free hosting
Good idea.. There really isn't too much that the server does.. The server is in the USA and my connection from Canada is nice and quick to it, so if you even just want to use it for a North American mirror it might be useful that way..

Re: Free hosting
I don't have any real idea of how to control the memory usage, so I guess so long as you're not running any long term memory hog it should be okay.. the server has 8 GB of RAM (there is another free slot so I can always inquire how much to fill it)..
The hard drive is 500 GB and there is about 470 GB free, so you can have a fair amount (the FTP server does quotas, but i don't have it turned on as one hoster is using a few MB and another is using a few GBs)..
I found one online test suite, that checks from places around the world and I will post the screen caps from my session, but if you want to test yourself just use my domain name (shaosean.tk) on this site https://www.dotcom-tools.com/website-speed-test.aspx to do what I did..

Re: Free hosting
The error with Tel-Aviv was a DNS resolution issue.. This test was loading my web page with a browser, from different locations around the world..
The error with CA, USA (IPv6) is due to the server not having IPv6 support (I'll ask again).. The error with Shanghai was a DNS resolution error..
Re: Free hosting
Incase anyone is wondering what the "catch" is, there is none.. I'm already paying for the server and bandwidth, and quite honestly, my site is low bandwidth so I figured if someone else can use it as well, then why not offer it
I've always liked running a server, so I manage to squeeze in some time to find new features that can be added for everyone (like SSL.. I use Let's Encrypt which is free so I can offer free SSL)..
As always, feel free to ask questions and I will try to answer to the best of my ability

Re: Free hosting
Does it provide encrypted hosting? What kind of encryption do you provide?

Re: Free hosting
What do you mean? There is SSL, which provides encrypted HTTP and FTP connections..
