I'm hoping it's something odd to do with my installation but I have a nagging fear it isn't...

When I look through the LiveCode Dictionary from within LiveCode I keep coming across glitches. The latest is a show-stopping loss of key bits of info from the Find page. Fortunately it's all there in the online version at docs.runrev.com/Command/find - but I only found out about that resource through a chance result in a Google search!

Trimmed-down grab of what's in my local Dictionary for Find: And trimmed-down copy of the same thing from the online version: If this is just a local problem at my end, what's the best way for me to address it?
If it's a more widespread problem, can I do anything to help?

What Operating system are you running?

What version of Livecode are you running?

If you can answer those questions life might get a bit easier.

It's exactly the same in the Commercial and Community editions.

Confirmed. You might consider filing a bug report against that. Most documentation bugs get resolved very quickly.

I'm a bit of a lazy slob; so, as I work on Linux I couldn't be bothered to fire up VMware with Mavericks.

Anyway; I cracked open 3 versions of Livecode on Linux and this is what I got;
Obviously somebody in "quality control" had a headache that day. My advice is to go back to 6.5 which is a stable release,
or forward to 6.6 which is an interim version before the much vaunted version 7.

Glad that that problem got sorted out, Richmond.

And the lesson for today is;

"If something that has a number in the third slot (such as 6.5.2) is wonky,
go for a version that has a zero there."

Not a typo, just a nod to Richard Gaskin (@FourthWorld would have been a better choice), someone I knew from a mailing list a long, long time ago.

Richard Gaskin is one of the good guys round here.

By now; after all this batting back and forth between Thee and Me, and the fact that version 6.5.2 is "past its sell by date" I certainly wouldn't bother reporting that one.

It is good to always hang onto earlier versions of Livecode rather than delete each version as you install a new one.

I have been very glad I have held on to old versions as I have just managed to get version 1.1.1 (!!!!!!!) running on Linux PPC; which,
until it is possible to build a Linux PPC version of 6.x.x or 7 is all that is available to Linux PPC users.

Similarly, I am running an early version on a G3 iMac running Mac OS 9 that is very useful for scavenging code from old Hypercard projects.

Sell-by date? In current release terms version the GM1 build of 6.5.2 is fresh, no? According to the bug reporter form v6.6 is at DP1 stage. But I will definitely take your advice to drop back to v6.5, which is still installed. (In fact I see 5.5.3 still installed too! Maybe it is time for a *bit* of a spring clean...)

I mean 'past its sell by date' in that it has been displaced by the 6.6 build.

All these builds (at least until a 6.6 'stable') are best avoided for production purposes: stick to 6.5.

There is no point in filing bug reports for 6.5.2; more to the point, if you have the time, to find bugs in 6.6.

I always found the included dictionary buggy also. I bought the paperback copy from the Rev store and it is really a helpful book to leave at my desk.

The only problem about the paperback copy is that it will very soon, come version 7, be quite considerably out of date.

I do hope, come version 7, the dictionary will be rather more up-to-date as well.
