Make a drop down menu in a spreadsheet

Post by jessamy99 » Mon Sep 11, 2017 7:20 pm

Hi Everyone!

I hope you are all safe and not being blown away by hurricanes or flooded.
If you are, our prayers are with you!

I am currently writing an app that collects data and the data is then emailed to the admin.
Once there, it can be imported into Excel or Libre Office.

That is all working fine, hurrah!
I can export the data as a comma separated text file.
This can then be imported easily.

However the admin wants a drop down menu created in the spreadsheet during the import.

Is there a way of doing this from the text file?

Any help would be warmly appreciated as always!

Best wishes,
Jessamy.

Hi Jessamy,

I do not think it is possible to create a dropdown list (Data Validation) direct from your csv File.

However what is possible is to import your application created csv list into a fixed tab and range in an existing excel sheet to which a validation can refer.
I have done this with a pivot table that refers to a range of information the user can import in an existing tab called importdata.

Hope to have been of some help?

Regards,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Thankyou so much for the speedy reply!

I was afraid that it was asking for the moon!
:)

The list for the drop down menu is already with admin.
So I think they can sort the drop down menus themselves!

Thankyou again for the help.
All the best,
Jessamy.
