EDIT: didn't get the quote quite right, it should have been "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses."

The Kickstarter campaign reached 3342 backers.
It's true that the timing was probably not perfect (july in Europe... many people are on holidays).

I think there's a difference in funding a tool for opensource or expanding an already opensource tool^^
