Player turns transparent when running a video

Post by astroboy » Wed Apr 23, 2008 4:33 am

I upgraded to Mandriva Linux 2008.1 Spring just to find a horrible bug.

In Revolution 2.9, when it starts a player to reproduce a video file, the player appears as a transparent box, allowing to see the desktop or windows below it. But the videos are not visible anymore.

I deactivated the Compiz 3D effects, restarted X, and entered again. Voila! the videos on players are visible again.

It seems to me that Compiz introduced in this version something that Revolution does not seem to handle. If I start mplayer to reproduce a video file, it works fine even with Compiz running...

This didn't happen in Mandriva 2008.0... and, by the way, the videos look fine using an old stack from the Metacard times (xanim based)...

Some idea to fix this? other than stop using Compiz, of course...

I found some sort of workaround...

In .mplayer/config file, I put this:

vo=gl2
