Hello,
I downloaded the Linux Community Edition yesterday, and tried to install it.
I made the file executable, became root and started the installation.
I accepted the terms, selected install for all users and clicked the Install button.
Unfortunately the following error message appears.
LiveCode Installer // Installation Failed
The installation was not successful.
Installer slave quit unexpectedly.
I'm using OpenSuSE 12.2 (64 bits).
What are the requirements to install and run this program ?
Please help.
Best regards,
Flash2013

That all sounds right.I made the file executable, became root and started the installation.

Did anything make it into your /opt/runrev directory?
If you've gotten this far then it sounds like the ia32lib libraries are already installed on your system, but if not, that's a prerequisite at the moment.

From the release notes:
The linux engine requires the following:
• 32-bit installation, or a 64-bit linux distribution that has a 32-bit compatibility layer
• 2.4.x or later kernel
• X11R5 capable Xserver running locally on a 24-bit display
• glibc 2.3.2 or later
• gtk/gdk/glib (optional – required for native theme support)
• pango/xft (optional – required for pdf printing, anti-aliased text and unicode font support)
• lcms (optional – required for color profile support in JPEGs and PNGs)
• gksu (optional – required for elevate process support)
I'm running openSUSE since 11.4 and haven't had any trouble installing so I'm not sure what to say at the moment. I've never seen this message. It's clear you have the ia32-libs installed or you would recieve the "not a dynamic executable" message. Have you tried "ldd <path to installer>" to see if anything is missing? Why did you become root? This is a Click to run gui installer. Are you trying to install via the command line? Try this: logged in as your own user, double click the installer file and install only for yourself. Does this do anything different?

Becoming root to install is necessary if gksu isn't available, as in Fedora Core. Otherwise there's no way to elevate privileges and you can't install for all users.

OK, I just tried installing from the CL and it works, and sudo just meant skipping the installer's authentication step, so none of that would seem to be causing your problem. Other than ldd, I don't have anything else helpful to offer at the moment

Makes perfect sense gksu isn't standard in openSUSE KDE installs but it is available so it's something I have installed.mwieder wrote:Becoming root to install is necessary if gksu isn't available, as in Fedora Core. Otherwise there's no way to elevate privileges and you can't install for all users.
