mergZXing on a Windows Standalone?

We have a need to create a Windows 10 tablet app using QR codes. The tablets do have a rear facing camera (Surface tablets).
Will -- or how -- does the mergZXing external work with a Windows .exe published app? [does not need to be a Universal app]
Any advice or direction would be helpful.
