Re: Datagrid form slow data load time
A big THANKYOU for spending so much time on this and posting your own stack. I apologise for the divide by zero error; I thought I had fixed it but may have zipped and posted the wrong version. Your example is much quicker to load 500 images but oddly seems a little hesitant when scrolling: I guess ...

Re: Continue to use Livecode ?
but the word that springs to mind is 'inconsistency' Agree, they sell at high prices then make special offers in the run up to Christmas and then there were all those schemes where we were asked to pay now for something in the future. Lets not forget "the next best exciting thing" e.g. a thousand w...

Re: Continue to use Livecode ?
when you reach the pricing section don’t tell me you wouldn’t be a bit tempted. I was tempted before I arrived at the pricing section but I agree with your point - Panorama feels and most likely is a good deal. (60 months for $300) I wonder how powerful its programming language and file handling is.

Re: Continue to use Livecode ?
I don't see that Livecode will ever go back to being free because they tried it with community and it did not work. However the present pricing structure makes little sense to me: Livecode's selling points are that it uses an English like syntax and that it can build cross platform applications that...

Re: Continue to use Livecode ?
I have done that sort of thing recently as well, updating my thoughts to always having LC v. 9.6. Why that version ? Is it the last community version ? If so it could work for me as long as my older hardware works or that Apple maintains Rossetta2. I will see if I can find an old old copy of RunRev...

Re: Continue to use Livecode ?
What's unclear is if you have a requirement for cross-platform development (while one would assume this because you're a livecode user, that's not necessarily true). I did in the past as I created applications for Windows and Android as well as Apple. These days I can live with just Mac OS. I shall...

Continue to use Livecode ?
Hi, I don't mean to sound emotive but once a year I ask myself if I should renew my Indy Licence. I use to be a small business and used Livecode applications to support various projects I was involved in. These ranged from data processing such as analysing messages received from personal beacons via...

Re: Datagrid form slow data load time
Hi Stam, The folder of images is 1.2Gbytes and comprises full size jpegs and smaller but still quite large thumbnails that are 500 pixels on their longest sides. The image in my datagrid is 300 x 300 pixels and the images are being resized in the handler "LayOutControl". This is where I suspect the ...

Datagrid form slow data load time
Hi, I decided it was time to experiment with a datagrid form so I have put together a simple form that displays a thumbnail image and a text field in each row. I populate the datagrid by setting the dgdata which contains the image URL and the text string to be displayed. It all works o.k. when its g...

Re: Edit contents of field displayed in a datagrid form
I have just remembered a question. The mouse double up handler is if pMouseBtnNum is 1 then if the dgProps["allow editing"] of the dgControl of me then put the short name of the target into tShortName switch the short name of the target case "Title" put "Title 1" into theKey put the long ID of the t...

Re: Edit contents of field displayed in a datagrid form
Hmmm talk about a suckers gap...... I think I have it working. I read some of the comments that follow the lesson and Elanor wrote this : If you have a look at the script for the row in a new Data Grid form you will see that there is a mouseDoubleUp handler which checks the target and calls EditFiel...

Re: Edit contents of field displayed in a datagrid form
Spotted my first error : The text should be a label type field and not a normal field. A normal field has its own editing internals and these suppress some messages including mouse double up. These internals collide with the field editor of the datagrid.

Re: Edit contents of field displayed in a datagrid form
I think that the lesson contains errors. For example the lines put the dgHilitedLine of me into theLineNo and put the dgHilitedLine of me into theLineNo return the value of 1 when they are in the behavior of the row template, as per the instructions ## Placed in script of row template behavior . Thi...

Edit contents of field displayed in a datagrid form
Some of you may remember that despite using RunRev/Livecode for rather to long I have generally avoided datagrids due to their complexity and their ability, when used by me, to produce difficult to trap errors. Well o.k. its not the datagrid's fault. Anyway yesterday I decided that it was time that ...
