Re: Schizophrenia

I agree to the free "hobbyist tier" but think that it should at least allow standalone to be built on Windows/Mac/Linux computers. Students should be able to build programs to show their parents and share with their friends. It is very powerful to be able to put your program on a USB drive and take ...

Re: Edutainment Community Edition Build, planning thread

I like the idea. You can it is fun but don't over-emphasize it. The student's reaction depends on their age. When I would say this is fun in class, some students would smile and agree, others would just moan and groan. Sometimes saying this is fun took the edge off what we were doing. By making ligh...

Re: Snail Bob

Great explanation and defense of using LiveCode over Scratch. Maybe what the company needs on its website is a page of sound educational reasons to use LiveCode as the computer language in the classroom. Present reasons based on educational theory and practical use in the classroom. Target each leve...

Re: My LiveCode site may be going away

Thanks for the idea and offer. I wish it were that easy. It uses a lot of javascript functions and Google code. It is impossible to read and edit at the javascript/html level. Just look at the source of one of the pages. Besides ownership questions of those functions, I do not know if there is anyth...

My LiveCode site may be going away

My LiveCode website - Learn to Program by Creating Games, Apps and Programs ( bit.ly/erhslc or https://sites.google.com/a/pgcps.org/livecode/ ) may be going away in the next month or two. I apologize, it is beyond my control. It is Google’s decision and So if you are using it for your classes, to le...

Re: Wait...WHAT?!?

I have always thought the IDE was too complicated for beginners. It is overwhelming. Too many choices. Maybe it needs a beginner version, or at least have a simplified one with many of the tools down in submenus/sub palettes. The same goes for the coding part. It is simple to start something but get...

Re: Flashing my knickers in public

Thank you for your nice words. I never cease to be amazed of what you are doing in your classes and the cool projects that you come up with. I should think that she wants you to explain the concepts and skills that you will be teaching them and how you do it. Take her up on her offer to send you gui...

Re: Flashing my knickers in public

Here are some rough ideas of short simple projects that you could do every few days You could do the following: Teach them buttons - (mouse up) and write programs - that play different sounds (download free sound effects for them to use) - that change background colors - that changes images (dog, ca...

Re: Is this what we need?

I do not know but there are many sources of grant money. LiveCode was not interested and had no resources to assign to it. They had other priorities.

I understand.

Is this what we need?

I saw this in a post in the Computer Science Educators group on Facebook: Join us! The University of Northern Iowa is pleased to announce the commencement of the summer 2021 offering of our popular online course "Introduction to Programming with Scratch." This course has been offered a dozen times s...

Re: Food

Best of all are "Boardwalk Fries" sold at the beach. Vinegar French Fries. Not your ordinary fry, these tangy boardwalk-inspired spuds are soaked in vinegar, refrigerated to allow the natural sugars to develop and then fried to a golden brown finish. Dress the rustic cut potatoes in plenty of vinega...

I agree with bogs. I always thought the English version of chips were what we call potato wedges.

Then there are other chips like "silicon chips" and "cow chips" :D

Re: Baby stuff

I agree with Richmond While this may, indeed, be "baby stuff", LiveCode should wake up and realise that all around the world children both in classrooms and at home both want to and are required to program "baby stuff" and are doing so using other methods than LiveCode We need more "baby stuff. The ...

Re: Random movement of some little objects?

Yes. The original post described it as a little game for kids. The poster was looking for an easier way to create random moving figures. He/she was even willing to just find or buy such scripts. I was just reiterating the easiest way without the having to create complex equations. I was reinforcing ...
