Re: RunRev vs. Acrobat

Interesting stuff, InfoCentral. I haven't had even the Acrobat player installed for years so I have no idea what their authoring tools are like, but I'm guessing it's not scripting. Acrobat is a funny program in that you don't have authoring tools and few editing tools. You build your complete docu...

Re: RunRev vs. Acrobat

Revolution is a good choice for making applications. Acrobat is a good choice for making printable page layouts. I'm not sure I see a comparison here. What am I not understanding? If you thought that Acrobat was just for making print documents than you have been missing a lot! While I do use the pd...

RunRev vs. Acrobat

I usually produce my training material in Adobe Acrobat. I am currently attempting to learn Revolution but in learning it I keep asking myself can't I do all this already in Acrobat? What is the advantage I will gain in learning Revolution over using Acrobat? Thanks...

Software at the Speed of Thought

I recently received the printed version of this tutorial book by Dan Shafer on RunRev. It appears to be the only tutorial book available and has been updated to a Second Edition. There is a long introduction where Dan shares his experience with HyperCard and its connection with the present RunRev. H...

Re: Tutorial Books

I had another look at the BYU courses referenced earlier in the thread and I think they do a pretty good job for someone with some background and motivation -- they've got a nice sequence laid out, anyway. You miss the lectures, of course, so you kind of have to figure that part out on your own.......

Re: Tutorial Books

I agree that the lack of structured learning curriculum is a problem for Rev. This has always been a problem for small companies and is usually the ultimate cause of their demise. If you build a very powerful piece of software but nobody knows how to use it then what do you have in the end? I used ...

I'm a little new to the RunRev platform and I would like to know what exactly is Adventure Game Creator and how does it help you with creating games?

Re: 3D Visual Simulations

But it is getting those capabilities as well as a game engine through plug-ins. That is a big plus and a step in the right direction. It seems that everything is going the 3D route. Even Photoshop CS4 adopted 3D functions. Can't wait to see what CS5 Suite brings to the table. I believe it is going t...

Re: Tutorial Books

I, too, am searching for tutorial materials. I decided to order the book Software at the Speed of Thought by Dan Shafer after looking over all the options and finding this to be the best one available to date. The first publishing was done in Oct. 2003 and this is the second edition with a publish ...

Re: Tutorial Books

The problem I have always had with obtaining training materials online is that it is a patchwork process with no real aim of getting a newbie to proficient. Each one writes at the level he writes at and assumes that the person at least knows this much and works from there. Books or DVD have taken th...
