Re: How to think about programming with Livecode
Trying to understand the user's requirement, I came up with this: Produce an interface that allows a user to choose a composition - cup size, product type, options, add-ons, and so-forth At the bottom or top of the screen, maintain a continuous characteristic display containing the fat, calories, ca...

Re: Script Editor features
Thanks for the editor alternative! I was able to install it and will work with it some more. Also, thanks for the App Browser tip. I had completely missed out on that. It looks like your editor has a lot of nice keyboard shortcuts. I'll look forward to getting more familiar with those. The profiling...

Script Editor features
I've been missing certain features that are common in other editors, especially autocomplete. Also, I'm finding it difficult to trace code through the stacks, cards, groups, and buttons. Do any of these features exist in the standard editor? Or are there alternative editors that would include them? ...

Re: Android Features and Deployment
I don't think Ticked Off objects should be used in other projects. Naturally I intend, eventually, to replace/rejigger the vast majority of the Ticked Off app before releasing it. My intent was to use it as a learning platform while building a prototype of a working app. By coincidence, it happened...

Omaha, Nebraska developers
If there are any Android developers in the area, I would like to meet.
I'll be working in this area for more than a year and would like to have an occasional get-together with other live-code developers in the area, particularly anyone working on Android applications

Re: Programmer needs a reference ...
I agree that a syntactical guide would be a great tool. However, I'm afraid the richness of the language would make such a guide essentially unusable. I've been relying very heavily on sample scripts and intuition so far, but a handy, easy to use guide (as opposed to an 800 page dictionary) would ma...

The TickedOff sample app was a big boon for me, thank you RunRev for that. Embarrasingly, the app I'm developing is a task manager (i know there are lots of task managers, mine will have some unique features), which has raised some additional questions and observations: 1) Are samples from runRev an...

FourthWorld, thanks for that reference. I can now set this aside for later review.
The one thing I was least concerned about (the user interface) has become the thing I am most concerned about, though I am feeling better about it every day.

Re: Are there any sample android apps with native controls/menus
Better than I would have made the effort to figure out on my own.
Next up on my hit list:
- Figure out how to put two scrollers in one stack
- Customize the scroller
- Need a date input widget

Re: iPad blasphemy
It has the perception of being perfect, and for software to be successful, it also has to create the perception of perfect.
Apps that crash, generate error messages, or are difficult to use will be quickly pushed into obscurity.

Re: iPad blasphemy
You can't develop for the iPad user if you don't understand how it fits into people's lives. For example, here is what my girlfriend likes about her iPad, which she uses as a laptop replacement (even though it can't print, display Flash content, or save/edit files. It can't even run Web-based apps, ...

Re: Are there any sample android apps with native controls/menus
I just received a link to the Summer Academy presentation which includes a link to a livecode application, deployable to both iOS and Android, and which includes a scrollable list including momentum scrolling. Thank you runRev, this is just what I needed. Now if we can just work on the deployment pr...

Re: Reading an e-mail, including attachments, from the phone
Ok, I think I see what you're getting at - that I will have to implement POP or ActiveSync directly in the application, and not read e-mails from the local client applications. This was my first thought, but I had been looking for another alternative. Maybe there is no alternative. Next objective - ...

Re: Android features do not appear to be complete
I am dedicated to the Android because I see it as a growth market. iOS is a declining market. However, I don't want to pay $199 for the Android feature when it is so lacking in comparison to the iPhone. I want to be able to develop ONCE and deploy to both platforms, as well as (ideally) the Blackber...
