Re: Storing information online

Hi, You beat me to it ... I just created an account for myself and recorded me setting up a mysql database - got to the part called "remote sql" - I.e. access from an external computer/server - and we need a premium account. The cheapest is $6 a month and there are cheaper ones at a pound a month pa...

Re: Storing information online

Hi

https://infinityfree.net/

That solves one of your problems

Includes Mysql - free subdomain php and softaculous scriptinstallation.
Would'nt use them for anything "important" but looks good for "playing" - I haven't used them

Re: revCursors magically attaches to my stacks

Hi 12 years later and I get it again after a year without getting it. I think the "Recipe" is - you rename the stack and then do a build. The system get's it's knickers in a twist (technical explanation). The fix above from mark still works and to save people looking ... lock messages delete stack "...

Re: Can LC do math with precision to the 7th decimal place? - Solved

I'm wondering if the decimal number implementation has anything to do with the Livecode for FM project. Filemaker has a default 16 digit precision but can go up to 400 digits. They won't be able to be compatible if the precision stays as it is. In fact if this is the case we should get a lot of new ...

Re: Community widgets

Hi Hermann,

Just loaded the turnimage stack

pressed START then stop at varying times - 5 seconds 10 seconds etc - the whole ive livecode exits without any spinning or dialogs or anything.

I tried it on LC 9.04 rc3 and livecode 9.5 dp1 - exactly the same

O/S is Windows 10

Re: The acid trip that inspired Bill Atkinson to create HyperCard

HI Bill Atkinson was is too clever and not vain to not credit an inspiration. Visicalc was totally ripped off if you look at the metaphor but Zoomracks was just boxes around "Visidex" here is an article from slashdot -- I could'nt put it better myself (well I could but I don't have time  ) I o...

Re: failed to follow the tutorial

Thanks Jacque, I should RTFM (Read the Fine Manual) - I read it in the release notes probably a year ago even though it was added to in version 7.1.2 nearly three years ago - I only moved from 6 series about a year ago - skipped 7 and 8. - I have "Comfortable shoes" syndrome, and if it ain't broke w...

Re: Refactoring Support for the LC Script Editor

Hi Mark, Thank you so much for this this, which we have all thought about writing - next time. Do you want to put your paypal email here or just PM me? I for one would like to contribute/donate something because even if I have no use for it at this moment, I certainly will in the not too distant fut...

Re: Refactoring

I really thought that it was the invention of Commodore (CBM) for their PET computer but years later I found out from Wikipedia that Jiffies where a time measurement invented in the 1800s - and they are also used in the Linux kernal The earliest technical usage for jiffy was defined by Gilbert Newto...

Re: Refactoring

Well knock me down with a feather, thanks Klaus. I ALWAYS assumed right at the start of my Livecode journey that it defaulted to milliseconds so I always put secconds or milliseconds on the end - so I never noticed. How could I doubt Jacques' recollection of the Livecode basics...... Can we count in...

Re: Label Field - Can I get it to name it's self?

HI Craig, So you are into QED and QM as well? - Wolfgang Pauli is the answer - brilliant retort. I would just say "that's Cr*p" because time's too short waiting for the penny to drop - I just save time and use 2 words instead of 4. Men of few words are the best men - William Shakespeare and who am I...

Re: distorted graphics when using move or set loc

Hi I would suggest it's the driver. If it works on some machines and not others. When you install windows on a machine that you do not have the latest graphic driver to it uses a "generic" vga Driver. If the OP has updated to Windows 10 from say a windows 7 machine then W10 will put in a generic dri...
