Android soft keyboard issue when in landscape orientation

Hi LiveCoders I'm experiencing an issue with the Android soft keyboard when the device is in landscape orientation, but only on recent versions of Android. I don't know if LiveCode is to blame, or the Andoid OS, or the Java SDK, or the Android SDK, or what. Here's what happens: Suppose a LiveCode ap...

Re: LC 8.1 dp 1 breaking changes?

Ali, I've attached a dumbed down version of the stack that produces the bug. If you build its Android standalone in LC 8.0.1 GM, it works on the device. If you build its standalone in LC 8.1.0 DP 1 without altering the inclusions, it crashes on the device. If you open the inclusions tab and just unc...

Re: LC 8.1 dp 1 breaking changes?

Thank you guys. I can only procude the bug with this one copy of my stack the way it was before its inclusions was altered. I tried to reproduce the bug with a new stack, but couldn't (yet). I would rather not spend too much time trying to reproduce it with a new stack because the problem stack has ...

Re: LC 8.1 dp 1 breaking changes?

I have found that I just needed to remove at least one inclusion, build the standalone, add the inclusion back again and rebuild.
Now my the app works again.
So the inclusions tab addition actually required me to modify the inclusions, even if it was only to remove one and add it back again.

Re: LC 8.1 dp 1 breaking changes?

Thank you, Paul. I skimmed through the release notes and found nothing that suggests I make any changes to my project. I noticed the new inclusions tab but couldn't spot anything wrong there. I hope this doesn't mean what I think it does. Here goes another day of chopping and stripping down my proje...

[solved] LC 8.1 dp 1 breaking changes?

Dear forum, I don't know what it is, but something changed from LC 8.0.1 GM to LC 8.1 DP 1 that broke my app on Android. My standalone works perfectly when built with LC 8.0.1 GM, but the exact same project (with no alterations), when built with LC 8.1 DP 1, the app crashes during startup. I can't p...

Re: What happened to native encoding in LC8?

Thanks you all for your suggestions. I managed to rewrite the htmlText formatting function for LC8, and it no longer checks for native characters anywhere, so the function is significantly shorter: function formattedInput2 theFieldID, theExponents -- returns htmlText for the specified field, formatt...

Re: What happened to native encoding in LC8?

Try the folllowing in LC versions prior to LC7: Create a new stack and put the following script into the card script: global superScriptArray, superScriptArrayTrans on openCard if superScriptArray is not an array then -- superScriptArray has not been initialized yet put baseConvert("2070",16,10) int...

Re: What happened to native encoding in LC8?

Thank you jacque; Previous versions of LC used to treat the ordinary typed characters found on a standard US keyboard as "native". If this behavior is no longer supported in LC8, it breaks my htmlText formatting handlers which examine the encoding of each character to determine how its html equivale...

[solved] What happened to native encoding in LC8?

Hi livecoders, When I type normal characters in an input field in LiveCode 8, e.g. abc123, the encoding of each character is reported as "unicode". Isn't it supposed be be "native"? I don't know if I'm just being silly or what, but It would seem like native encoding is no longer supported in LiveCod...

Re: First time using an External

Hi Ross Dll's are always external to the executables that link to them. It may sometimes seem like the .dll is compiled "into" an executable when the .dll is in fact part of the Operating System, in which case there is no need for distributing the .dll along with your executable. It should otherwise...

Re: Converting Hex to ASCII

Hi Keith The last 2 hex digits correspond to the 233rd character of the Extended ASCII Character set, which may vary on different platforms and computers for several reasons. The web calculator most likely uses a different Extended ASCII Character set from that used by LiveCode on your computer. How...

Re: LC 7.1.4 Stable not installing on W7 or W10 64bit

Hi Paul Whenever an installation process seems to be stuck in Windows 8.x or Windows 10, you can select it in the Details tab of Task Manager, right-click it, and select "Analyze wait chain" to see if another process may be blocking it. If so, then you may need to end the blocking process in order f...
