Re: Text field appearance

Thanks, both! :D
When I get my Xcode problem sorted (separate thread) I'll investigate all the permutations.

Xcode 5.1 problem?

I foolishly updated Xcode from 5.0.2 to 5.1. Now the Mobile Support pane in the Preferences window is blank, and when I try to use Add Entry and pick the new version of Xcode (in /Applications, having overwritten the previous version automatically) I'm told that "The chosen folder is not a valid iOS...

Text field appearance

Quick question:
In iOS, is there any way to have an editable text field that doesn't get an odd partial black border when someone taps into it?

Re: Provisional Profile - New to iOS development

I've done this once, using a very long set of instructions I found in a thread here. But boy, it was intense and hard to remember. Now I'm trying to explain how to do this (long story...) and I'm wondering... Does anyone have a recommended – well-explained, nothing unnecessary, that sort of thing – ...

Re: fillFore, backgroundColor?

I will report a bug if I can get my head around what to say! Perhaps someone can help? Try this: make three image objects, three graphic objects and three buttons. Make the graphic objects opaque. Run the following lines: set the borderColor of image 1 to "red" set the foregroundColor of image 2 to ...

Re: fillFore, backgroundColor?

If I set the fillFore of something to a color the Inspector palette icon here, second down in the second column, shows the color. If I set the backgroundColor of something the same icon shows the color. If I hover over the button icon I get "backgroundColor" shown in the tooltip. If I set the foregr...

fillFore, backgroundColor?

Silly question I'm sure, but why is the fillFore of an object controlled in the Inspector by the button called backgroundColor? Especially when there is such a thing as foregroundColor, which isn't a synonym for fillFore? #confused

Re: Menu Builder Woes?

Hard to say without knowing more about their construction, but if you don't have any objects positioned vertically using scripts then you *could* simply add 22px to the stack's height, move the existing contents down by 22px, and add your menu button group in the newly-exposed top part. In Windows &...

Re: Menu Builder Woes?

All significantly valuable info. I wish I'd had this conversation a long time ago! One of the things needed, I feel, is a "So you want to..." set of focused instructions on things such as making menus, and many others. If something like that was available and had one or two dozen topics it could pro...

Re: Menu Builder Woes?

I don't ever "add" anything extra - I just lay out my controls as I want them with the menu bar at the top where we would expect it, and as a bonus I get the menus moved to the global menu bar when it runs on a Mac. And that, I think, is the key: laying everything out, including the menu buttons, r...

Re: Menu Builder Woes?

Yep, exactly. I'm not being dense (although I did just switch to nighttime cough mixture  ) – I was wondering whether there was any alternative to saying "when you set up your menus you'll have to add 22 pixels to the top of objects that are placed near the top of the card or they will slip par...

Re: Menu Builder Woes?

If you define theH as "the height of this cd" it should work nicely. Better, thanks, but the field "work" still slips under the window title bar. Hmm. on resizeStack put the height of this card into theH put the width of this card into theW set the rect of field "work" to 0,0, theW + 1, theH - 20 s...
