Re: LiveCode vs Xojo licenses

This is exactly what I was wondering: are there people who aren't buying because of the expiring licence? The quantity is unknown but the basic answer is "yes".

Easiest WordPress db access method?

I've been reading up on WP access and getting my head all twisted. Does anyone have a simple (relatively speaking) method or pointers? I have full access to the server and setup, in case it involves tweaking the wp_connect file or anything similar. I'd like to do this for mobile in the end, but it d...

Re: LiveCode vs Xojo licenses

While it isn't the more traditional method of licensing, it isn't really "renting" either. In as much as renting applies to this kind of thing in general, it is - in that you're renting (paying for a fixed period) rather than buying the ability to make closed-source products. Software pricing as re...

Re: Xcode 5.1 problem?

It's on both my devices, iPhone and iPad. And it's most frequent for me when Safari is involved. I'm hearing reports that it's related to 64-bit apps, for example from Twitter: iOS 7.1 fixes an important cause of random crashes in all 64-bit apps. If you have an iPhone 5s or retina iPad then you rea...

Re: LiveCode vs Xojo licenses

One thing that may be interesting to consider is whether enough people might join in if the license was 'buy rather than rent' to make up for not getting another payment every year from those who are okay (enough) with that. The RunRev folks are the only ones able to work that one out and it's the k...

Re: LiveCode vs Xojo licenses

Personally, I'm a little surprised that the Commercial licence flat-out expires after a year. Like others I had assumed (foolish me, I know) that it was about *access to updates* for a year. Practically all the software I've ever used – ok, largely general creative professional tools, some mainstrea...

Re: Xcode 5.1 problem?

I'm getting *seriously* fed up with the Springboard crashes in iOS 7.0.4. The only thing holding me back from 7.1 (which is reportedly much better in that respect) is LiveCode. Testing random ideas in the simulator and on my own device is fun and addictive... here's hoping for a quick resolution! :)

Re: Problems in the Dictionary

My thoughts too. Back in the mid-1990s I read my Allegiant SuperCard printed books pretty much cover-to-cover, and it really boosted my understanding and inspiration. I'd love to have the LiveCode dictionary (and user guide!) in print form, but should I wait? Probably... :?

Phew indeed! Thanks Dave. This really does seem to be an area that should be kept up to date.

Ahh! I was thinking along the lines of the menuItems, but of course that got me nowhere. Thanks. :)

Re: Provisional Profile - New to iOS development

Great stuff! That plus these two links seem pretty useful – although Apple does seem to have done its best to make this stuff impossible for mere mortals. :) http://lessons.runrev.com/s/lessons/m/4069/l/23275-how-do-i-become-an-ios-developer http://forums.runrev.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=18248&p=9165...

Building Option Menu items on the fly

This seems like something I really ought to know, but I just can't crack it: how can I (can I?) populate an Option Menu button with menu items by script?
I have a long list that's generated on the fly, and I want it to be presented in an Option Menu.

Re: Text field appearance

A general question – a sincere one, not trolling: Given that LiveCode does such a good job with emulating the appearance of controls in Mac OS, why doesn't it do better with emulating control appearances in iOS? It's amazing to be able to make stuff for iOS this easily, but buttons and similar thing...

Re: Text field appearance

@splash21, thanks for the nudge, the answer for a regular LiveCode Text Entry field is pleasingly simple: turn off showBorder. (Duh!)

@Jellicle, I like the sound of those native text controls! It doesn't suit today's specific requirement, but I'll come back to that later.

Re: Xcode 5.1 problem?

Phew! Thanks. Travelling now, I'll do that as soon as I get to the office. :)
Is it reasonably safe to assume that this won't be an issue in a few months' time? :)
