Re: App switcher/multi-tasking thumbnail

Hah! Isn't LiveCode itself a 'use at your own risk' kind of thing? I mean, it's SO powerful it's like the phrase "with great power comes great responsibility" was made specifically for it. :D (Personally, I'd *much* rather see it as an option in the Standalone Application Settings window and have a ...

Re: App switcher/multi-tasking thumbnail

Great tip! It works well for me. It'd be *really* nice to see this implemented as an option in the Standalone Application Settings window along with the other items in the Requirements and Restrictions section. (I just peeked into a copy of the "revstandalonesettings.rev" document but decided to ste...

Re: the number of ACTUAL lines in a field?

Of course it's an easy one-liner too, no two-step process needed:

Code: Select all

put the number of lines of the formattedText of field "blurb"
Thanks!

Re: the number of ACTUAL lines in a field?

That's not quite what I was playing towards (a more accurate phrase than "working towards") but it's a great example for a related process. Thanks!

Re: the number of ACTUAL lines in a field?

Replying to my own question *again*... :D Seems that the textHeightSum tells me the total height of the lines of text in pixels. Finding the 'effective textHeight' of the field tells me the line spacing, I can work out the number of visual lines from that, with a bit of sanity checking to CMA.

the number of ACTUAL lines in a field?

I know I can get the lines of a field, which tells me how many return-delimited chunks of text there are. But is there a way to determine the 'effective' lines of a field? Say I have one string with no returns in the middle, but it's long enough to linewrap into three 'effective', visual lines. (A b...

HTML entity decoding

I'm grabbing text from a web page, and this often includes HTML entities, as in this string: "In this second chapter of Ayumi’s biography". I could simply set the HTMLtext of a field to the grabbed text, but it also contains stuff I want to keep, such as img tags. I could simply run it through...

Re: LiveCode vs Xojo licenses

With a one-year subscription license currently selling for $500, what would be a good price for an in-perpetuity license? May I suggest a slightly more open way of putting it? Simply: "What would be a good price for a non-expiring licence?" In case I'm starting to sound like a troll I'll reiterate ...

Re: LiveCode vs Xojo licenses

If you do intend to distribute it, you may want to consider how integrated your app will be with WordPress or the MySQL it relies on, since, like LiveCode and a majority of OSS projects, both are governed by the GPL. A good point. But all I'd want to lock away in that scenario would be the db acces...

This is exactly what I was wondering: are there people who aren't buying because of the expiring licence? The quantity is unknown but the basic answer is "yes".

Easiest WordPress db access method?

I've been reading up on WP access and getting my head all twisted. Does anyone have a simple (relatively speaking) method or pointers? I have full access to the server and setup, in case it involves tweaking the wp_connect file or anything similar. I'd like to do this for mobile in the end, but it d...

Re: LiveCode vs Xojo licenses

While it isn't the more traditional method of licensing, it isn't really "renting" either. In as much as renting applies to this kind of thing in general, it is - in that you're renting (paying for a fixed period) rather than buying the ability to make closed-source products. Software pricing as re...

Re: Xcode 5.1 problem?

It's on both my devices, iPhone and iPad. And it's most frequent for me when Safari is involved. I'm hearing reports that it's related to 64-bit apps, for example from Twitter: iOS 7.1 fixes an important cause of random crashes in all 64-bit apps. If you have an iPhone 5s or retina iPad then you rea...

Re: LiveCode vs Xojo licenses

One thing that may be interesting to consider is whether enough people might join in if the license was 'buy rather than rent' to make up for not getting another payment every year from those who are okay (enough) with that. The RunRev folks are the only ones able to work that one out and it's the k...

Re: LiveCode vs Xojo licenses

Personally, I'm a little surprised that the Commercial licence flat-out expires after a year. Like others I had assumed (foolish me, I know) that it was about *access to updates* for a year. Practically all the software I've ever used – ok, largely general creative professional tools, some mainstrea...
