And yes, it is the same problem I think. I think I don't have complete grasp on some of the find functions like offset or marchChunk yet.

Bernd, I pasted your code into my script and yours worked perfectly and mine didn't. So I moved yours down to where mine was, one statement at a time, one variable at a time, everything, and mine still doesn't work. I am only getting 0 for the beginning and ending character locations when matchChunk...

Thanks, Bernd, that is exactly what I am looking for, a list of match locations in a file.

I'll play around, you gave me excellent information, thanks!

matchChunk Difficulty

I've tried a zillion different ways, but I cannot get this to work: put empty into findList if matchChunk(textBuffer, testValue, findList)=TRUE then combine findList with return answer findList with "OK" end if The answer triggers but I cannot get any visible contents from the variable "findList". mat...

variable names in other variables

Sorry, I saw the answer to this or a stack here somewhere and now cannot find it. How can I get the value of say a property whose name is in a variable, as in: put "backcolor" into tString answer tString with "OK" This returns "backcolor", but what I want is it to return the backcolor property value...

Noob question on regexp

Hi! I am trying to find URLs embedded in large text files. I want to search for occurrences of "://" and "<stuff>.<stuff>.<stuff>" (three unknown chunks without spaces separated by dots to identify URLs and IP addresses that don't have "http://" appended). Any suggestions? Find chars "://" in field ...

Interesting. When I locked the Card Inspector and changed cards it kept the previous card's data.

DataGrid Bug?

Hi! When changing column order in the Data Grid inspector, it seems to lose track of which column goes where - I select column A to change width, but then the width actually changes column B. It's as if the column headers no longer match the column names in the inspector. Let me know if this is a bu...

Inspector Focus Change

Hi! When duplicating a card, I have the Card Inspector open. After duplicating the card, the inspector changes to the stack inspector and I have to reopen the card inspector. How can I keep the card inspector open as I duplicate cards?

Thanks,
Walt

Thanks, Richard, great stuff! And MW, good thought, I'll keep that in mind - I have a couple multistack ideas fermenting.

Thanks Bernd, somehow I missed that in the brief documentation. Neat! A list of the available system globals in there as well! I have dusted off my Danny Goodman "The Complete Hypercard" book, maybe I'll need to symbolically burn it to get rid of old assumptions. Now if I could only find a machine w...

I put this in a field script and it worked by setting the insertion point then right clicking the mouse:

on mouseup
ask "Please enter text here" titled "Text Entry"
set the clipboardData["text"] to it
paste
end mouseup

Is this what you meant?
