Thanks Mark. "Stack" is an unfortunate use of a standard term in this context, I should have said in the "message queue" or "execution stack". I tried the "send msg in 1 tick" - that improved it to the point where it executes the errorHandler about 5 times (and the tests about 20 times) before it ha...

Thanks Mark. I don't think I am causing an error within the errorDialog handler, I am just using it to send a message to the two handlers that could incur the error - I had assumed it exits the errorDialog and then the other handlers handle the message sent by errorDialog. That implies errorDialog s...

errorDialog Problem

I have an odd problem with errorDialog. I have a script (simplified for this discussion) that goes thru a list of property names to get their current values. When I call some, though, I get an error (at the "do it" point), which I want to catch, then continue on. So I wrote this: on mouseUp put 0 in...

In a past life I was "Kernel Tuning Boy" for real time comms systems. One of the vagaries of many apps and OSs is what they do when they exceed some limit in a single list of some kind and need to open either a second peer list or a child list (depending on architecture). This can incur all kinds of...

Hi Richard. The replace functions are file size sensitive. The smaller the file, the better f2 was, but above around 150k words f1 started improving. Here are my results. Test f3 was your f2 but with the list of caps added to be fair with the regexp expression in f1: "if (k is in "abcdefghijklmnopqr...

Thanks, Bernd. Yes, I got the text marking going fine - what I am doing is parsing multiple input streams and marking sections differently based on past user habits and selections, ie simplistically grey=ignore, yellow=known interest, red=do you want more of this?, etc. My fun now is improving the f...

Another dumb regexp question

Regexp is tough!

Any thoughts on why I can't get this to work? I want to change all characters in field fInField except a-z, A-Z, and 0-9 into spaces.

replaceText(field fInField,"[^0-9A-Za-z]",space)

I've tried all combos of parens, square brackets, quotes, etc. I'm lost.

Thanks,
Walt

From an amateur (me) - this question was a good learning experience :-) I put this in the field (named "fText") script: on keydown theKey put word 2 of the selectedChunk into afterChar put theKey into char afterChar of field fText end keydown The selected chunk returns "char n to char m of field k" ...

Thanks Bernd. I am looking at before the event occurs - how can I change the highlighting as the user is dragging across the locked text, before they release the mouse.

Thanks,
Walt

Thanks, Bernd, I'm getting up to speed on the various flavors of regexp, especially the various need or not for some of the delimiting characters like parenthesis. You've been a great help.

Unhiliting selected text in a field

Hi again, another noob question. I have a field of text a user is working on. I have two problems. 1. I can't seem to find a field property that lets the user drag (mouseDown) across a phrase and visibly hilite it (like using a hiliter pen). Instead it sets the foreground color to the background col...

I think I got it Bernd, I was not seeing the specific requirements for a "regular expression". I was neglecting the parentheses in the string sent. I had assumed for a single word that was not necessary, but it is. This returned TRUE but did NOT fill the positionVarsList put field mySearchString int...
