Re: Techniques for Developing for Server

Having just found out that the environment function can return "server" (it's not in the docs) I will using this going forward in my scripts. By checking the environment I can use conditionals to have different sections of a script execute or not depending on whether it's running desktop or server. ...

Re: Faster way to remove duplicate lines?

No, just add the user name to the database name, so everybody use it's own db. That's pretty much what I was saying - since I don't have user ids I would randomly generate a 6 digit number to use for the name so there would not be conflicts. I will have to read up on SQLite and experiment some with...

Re: Faster way to remove duplicate lines?

I looked around and here is the older thread that was mentioned a couple of posts back - it is very similar, but did not get into exploring some of the pitfalls/caveats and other methods that this thread has. Still, nice to have everything referenced in one place. http://forums.runrev.com/viewtopic....

Re: Delete a card

A standalone can't modify itself in this way (no changes to a standalone get saved)

The way to get around this is to have your standalone be a launcher/splash screen that then launches a another stack. You can do any editing you want to that stack and save it whenever you want.

Re: Extend the Version function

@richmond62 I haven't fooled around with systemVersion enough to know whether it would give you anything useful back in those situations or not, but that might take care of it, along with environment. My main interest was just being able to put conditionals into my code so I don't have to comment st...

Re: Faster way to remove duplicate lines?

Here's an experiment using several of what I think would be very rare characters as the possible split delimiter. Seems to work perfectly, and I would love the see the data that breaks it. There is a stack attached as well that demonstrates it's strange powers. on mouseUp put deleteDuplicateLines(fi...

Re: Extend the Version function

Ah - exactly what I was looking for.

I guess I will change the feature request to "Update the documentation for environment to indicate that "server" is a possible result.

Why were so many people born today

But not yesterday?

Yesterday was like 12 people, but today is a bajillion. I assume it's because spam-bots like to register using the first of a month as their birth date.

Extend the Version function

It would be great if the version function returned more than just a number. It would be nice if it told you if it was desktop or server, for example, so that I could code in conditionals when developing on the desktop. Then when I copy and paste to server I don't need to comment stuff in and out by ...

Re: Techniques for Developing for Server

And here is another one, the one that led to me finding the strange behavior documented in the last post (I tried saving LDAPResult to a text file so I could see what was actually in it, without interference from browser formatting). Once I have the LDAPResponse I do some processing to make each ent...

Re: Techniques for Developing for Server

Okay, here is a situation where I getting strange results from server, but not in desktop. Unfortunately, getting it to happen is complicated, and requires things in addition to livecode to be installed. This actually came about because I was trying to document another error, but this is a good exam...

Re: Faster way to remove duplicate lines?

@MaxV In a multiuser environment I would still have to randomly generate a unique table name, create it and drop it for each user in order to avoid conflicts though, right? It is cool that I can just create a database file within using livecode and then populate it with whatever tables I need on dem...

Re: Faster way to remove duplicate lines?

@sritcp Just tested it with a field that contains item 1 item 2 item 3 item 4 item 4 item 4 item 5 And you are right, it comes back with a single line, containing "item 5", so it is only working when the first word is unique. I knew there had to be a catch - that is what I get for playing with array...

Re: Faster way to remove duplicate lines?

Oh, agreed - all experimentation is good. I was just saying why the DB solution was not a good fit for what I was doing. Also, there should be a section in the docs talking about using SQLite - the only reference I could find in the docs is a paragraph saying there is a driver for it. Since I didn't...

Re: Faster way to remove duplicate lines?

That requires having an SQLite database running outside of Livecode though, right? I am trying to avoid external dependencies. I had thought about using a database to accomplish this, but that opens up a set of external requirements for the code to function that I would like to avoid. Also, in a mul...
