Ubuntu App Showdown

Ubuntu is having an app contest with some pretty cool prizes. It was limited at first to using Quickly, but since then they removed those restrictions. Here is the details: http://developer.ubuntu.com/showdown/

Re: Ubuntu deb package builder

This forum does not allow me to post links, but a great starting point is: developer (dot) ubuntu (dot) com (fwdslash) publish Looks like they are making it pretty easy to get your work into the software centre. Last week a guy got his eBook about the Zombie Apocolyse in, cost a couple of bucks. It ...

Ubuntu deb package builder

Ubuntu has the Software Center, but to get apps there they need to be delivered to a PPA as .deb packages. Anyone with enough interest to make a drag-and-drop tool to turn a folder containing the standalone, the .desktop file, the icon, and any other parts into a valid .deb package? This would facil...

Re: LiveCode 5.5.0 Linux Memory leak... Again!

Hmm. Sounds like a pretty cool little project actually. Do you already have a script that does that?

Re: LiveCode 5.5.0 Linux Memory leak... Again!

That is just the thing though. If companies are going to sell Linux software, and charge the same rates as Windows and Mac versions, then they should apply the same amount of effort as other platforms. Rather than telling clients that Linux is just not a wide enough user-base to justify the work, wh...

Re: 4.6.4 and Ubuntu Precise

For anyone else who may be running into this issue:

By upgrading Unity to 5.10 using the test PPA's, 4.6.4 launches again. Something about Unity and Nvidia were keeping 4.6.4 from launching.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:unity-team/ppa
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Re: LiveCode 5.5.0 Linux Memory leak... Again!

LC 4 .6.4 is running fine on my wife's laptop. No memory leaks. Xorg memory stays steady at 1.6% The laptop has ATI with latest ati drivers, and is also running 12.04 latest updates. I think I might just switch my Desktop video-card (nvidia) with an ATI card I had. The Nvidia card has slightly bette...

Re: LiveCode 5.5.0 Linux Memory leak... Again!

Just to follow up, I left that stack open all night, and checked this morning. The memory usage went up to 32%, I have 8gb of RAM, so that is quite the usage, I agree. Still not unusable to me, but it does slow my system down a tad. You said you don't think there are many Linux people using LiveCode...

4.6.4 and Ubuntu Precise

I am having an issue in that I cannot get LiveCode 4.6.4 to launch or install from Ubuntu 12.04, on my desktop using Nvidia drivers. I mention the Nvidia drivers because I managed to install it on my wifes laptop which also uses 12.04, but has ATI. This makes me wonder if the graphics have anything ...

Ubuntu 12.04 x64 Dual Monitors Nvidia geforce 8400 card Nvidia Driver Version 295.33 LiveCode 5.5.0 I have the same experience as mwieder, in that if I work very hard at it I can get a slight memory leak...i.e. I maximised the stack, dragged in about 20 to 30 text fields and drag/resize them around....

Re: LiveCode 5.5.0 Linux Memory leak... Again!

LiveCode 5.5.0 works fine for me in Ubuntu 12.04 using latest Nvidia graphics drivers. No noticable memory leaks. I opened dictionary, dragged 20 fields in, re-sized and dragged them around. LiveCode stays steady and system RAM and CPUs are all stable. Unfortunatley that is a trial-version I just in...
