Re: On/Off auto-type in preferences

No. My whole point is that I'm trying to turn ALL autoformatting off, and it keeps insisting it knows better. Imagine the following lines (pretend they're code): abc def ghi Note they're all indented four chars. If I drag from the beginning of the third line down to select ghi, and then cut it to th...

Line numbers not scrolling in script editor

This is 9.0.1 on Windows 7 x64. Sometimes I get into a state where scrolling the code pane in the script editor doesn't scroll the line numbers to its left. Clicking a number sets a breakpoint on that numbered line, not the line of code to its right. I haven't figured out how to make this happen, bu...

Help->About LiveCode

When I invoke this on 9.0.1 on Windows 7 x64, nothing happens for four seconds, then I see a small scrolling field showing the credits in the middle of the screen. At first, I was unable to stop it, cancel it, or move it around. Since it looks like they include everyone down to the guy who refills t...

Re: Limit stack aspect ratio

aspect-by-max Presumably this means you want the stack to be the same size as the screenRect . Are you asking about my choice of name? It just means "constrain the aspect ratio by setting maxWidth or maxHeight". As to screenRect, that's the size of the whole screen. Even when a window is maximized,...

Re: Alternative to PUT value INTO variable

Another possibility is to use a different operator, like := used in Algol and Pascal. Then, it could be made part of the expression syntax, so one could write i := j := k := 0 or repeat while (i := i - 1) <> 0 Sure, it's different from what LiveCode is now, but having to say "put 0 into i" is one of...

Re: On/Off auto-type in preferences

But when you try to paste it by putting the cursor at the start of some other line, the cursor bumps to the right, and inserting it there results in improper indentation. Frankly, I don't understand why anyone would ever want the cursor to automatically jump to the first nonblank character in a line...

True modulus

I wish "div" and "mod" didn't produce the results that C produces with / and %. They should have been called something like "quo" and "rem", but it appears that "rem" can be used as a comment. It would be nice to have a pair of built-in operators or functions that produce a modulus that has the same...

Vertical alignment in text fields

We have left, centered, and right justification, why not top, centered, and bottom for the vertical position? This would be very useful when text fields are resized, since one often wants their contents to be centered in both dimensions.

Re: Alternative to PUT value INTO variable

I was going to suggest this, but found this old thread. I'd like to see support for a simple "x = expr" syntax, interpreted as an assignment if it's not in the middle of an expression where it could be a boolean. The main reason is that a lot of us probably code in other languages besides LiveCode, ...

"send on signal"

One limitation of the desktop externals interface is the inability for an asynchronous OS callback to invoke a message in LiveCode. The iOS externals interface seems to have a "post message" type of function that the external can call, and it would be nice if the desktop externals interface did too,...

Disable always-on-top palettes

I almost never want these to remain on top. I can imagine occasionally wanting something to stay on top, but it would be better if palettes had something in their settings menu for that, or perhaps a little pin icon that does that. I'm constantly pushing palettes out of the way to see what I really ...

Re: On/Off auto-type in preferences

I just noticed this thread. These options should be moved to the Script Editor preferences. But also: the worst irritant in the editor, which is so bad that I often find myself copying the entire script to the clipboard, pasting it into another editor, editing it, copying it back, and pasting it bac...

Re: Limit stack aspect ratio

At this point, I'm not interested in having LiveCode fix the aspect ratio when I release the mouse button, because I'm hoping I can get everything inside the window to resize dynamically as I drag, and I don't want it to resize into something really ugly even if temporary. So I'm not looking for a w...

Limit stack aspect ratio

I'm trying to figure out how to place limits on the aspect ratio of a stack, when the user resizes it. I'd like it to be limited to something between 4:3 and 16:9. I'd like it to accomplish this by reducing the height or the width in order to stay within the limits. I've tried all sorts of stuff in ...

Re: Something's shortening my full-screen window

"startup" gets called, but setting the rectangles in there, when the window size matches the screen size, didn't prevent it from shortening the bottom. "preOpenStack" worked, as you suggested, and I'm not about to try to figure out why the other didn't.
