Re: Video Tutorial

http://runrev.com/developers/lessons-and-tutorials/tutorials/ links to a long list of task specific tutorials. The Lessons section has more material and some of the lessons link to video as well (see the Sheep Herder build video). If you work through all of those, you have a pretty good understandin...

Re: Set The Menu Items of an Option Menu (script)

I've read Richard Gaskin's discussion of benchmarking, so I COULD set up a function that ran both lines 10,000 or 100,000 times and compared the milliseconds, but I'm not THAT interested since my option lists (and anything with variables in memory) are virtually instantaneous in LC by my standards -...

Re: Set The Menu Items of an Option Menu (script)

OK Craig - you have another newbie thinking. What are the tradeoffs between the two? Why would you want to use one or the other given that they have the same result? Does it take longer to fetch the property explicitly or is the engine doing it for you anyway in the short form?

Thanks

Re: Help with placing iterated function results into a list

tList is not a function, so you will not find it in the dictionary. tList is just a variable that Craig is using to capture the factors. t prefix on a variable name is just common livecode naming shorthand to remind the programmer that it is a temporary variable that is local to the function and wil...

Re: waits and movements again

Why wouldn't you have two cards with things in place, then just move from one to the other with a nice transition? All this moving seems to be pretty convoluted...

But I'm not the designer, so you may have a good reason or two.

Re: 8-puzzle game

It would help if you would give us the error code information that LiveCode gives you when it breaks on this line. If sSpaceButton is a variable that contains a number for the random() function to use, that should be OK, and if tButtonToSwap is a variable that can receive the new number generated, t...

Re: Mac App Store Submissions

I don't know where you are getting that information from Mark. http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/clarify/id455888980?mt=12 Clarify from Blue Mango Learning is definitely in the Mac App store and it was also featured by Runrev as being developed with LiveCode: http://www.runrev.com/company/runrev-blog/c...

Opinions on a purchase

I have a platform credit with Runrev that would give me a free platform. I have Mac/Windows and iOS already and have signed up as an Apple dev already. I work with Windows in my day job as an architect because Revit only runs on Windows, so Parallels has become my friend. But bottom line I am a Mac ...

Re: detecting movement finished

A variation would be to have each item put it's name after a variable as it completes the move or it's counter goes to zero. Then you have everything collected and ready to group or deal with as you need to.

Re: Quicktime version

Quicktime is part of the Mac core software set, so is always installed, but it is updated independently - sometimes when iTunes is incremented or for other reasons. The player software is again a separate piece of software that used to be purchased, but now a stripped down version comes with Lion I ...

Re: Data synchronising between desktop and mobile

Would it be possible to just have a data stack that lives in the user Dropbox folder? I know you don't NEED cloud access, but if both apps worked off a common database and were not accessed simultaneously, it would do away with the whole sync issue. I do this manually with certain files, but don't k...

Re: GeoCache App, need help

I sometimes see 5 m on my iPhones here on the prairies of North America without trees. With my Garmin handheld GPS i could sometimes get 3m accuracy which I believe is the limit of the unenhanced signal. Surveyors use other tricks to get their accuracy down to centimeters.
