Re: Standalone not saving stack file

Hi Klaus -- First, thanks for reposting here the code snippet for your fPrefsfolder function. Although I'd seen it before elsewhere, this saves me from having to track it down when time to add cross-platform code for saving a preferences file. You're right that as currently written the app would try...

Re: Standalone not saving stack file

Klaus -- Thanks for your kind reply. It wasn't my intent that you troubleshoot my errant code, but I'm sure you can spot my stupid errors. The thing is that my colleague-now-client is insisting that the Mac version be as similar as possible to his Windows version. (I've been trying to persuade him f...

Standalone not saving stack file

Following wonderful suggestions posted elsewhere by Klaus and others, I'm using a LC stack file (independent of the main stack) as a template. The app makes a copy of the template, then saves to disk the input stored in that new file. (BTW, I'm recreating from scratch an insanely complicated 30-year...

Re: Code window improvements

Thanks again to everyone who contributed solutions to the minor annoyance that the history of opened scripts is lost when one duplicates an LC mainstack file in the Mac Finder (and presumably in whatever is the Windows equivalent). The suggestion to do instead a "Save as..." from the LC menu -- savi...

Re: Code window improvements

Thanks much to Paul and Richard for your replies. However, as best I can tell, the suggestions offered do not address the issue I'd raised regarding saving a record of recent scripts (tabs) in the Code window. As long as one does not quit LC, the "Recent Scripts" (clock-like icon) button in the Code...

Code window improvements

For me, two of the most frustrating features of the LC code window are (1) that the recent history of script tabs is not saved when one quits and relaunches LC, and (2) that there is no split-screen feature that, for example, enables one to view script variables declared at the top of the script whi...

Re: Overhead referencing an object

Thanks to all who addressed my inquiry! Although I'd composed a detailed acknowledgment of each of your replies, my message was -- for some frustrating reason -- just lost when I clicked the "Submit" button. Sorry. Bottom line is that I appreciate all of your replies and that the overhead associated...

Overhead referencing an object

I can pretty much guess forum members' advice: namely, that I should mangage more scrupulously the defaultstack property when an external stack used to store client-entered data is opened invisibly by the main stack. (Mea culpa.) Still, I'm curious -- if anyone knows -- to what extent explicitly det...

Re: Faking stack file extensions

Thank you for confirming that stack files with custom extensions can be opened/saved without issue, which encouraged me not to scrap that strategy. Your first guess turned out to be spot on: One first guess is if the file extensions are hidden on the Windows explorer pane and you are getting some do...

Faking stack file extensions

When asked to create a cross-platform version of a 30-year old Windows-only psychological testing app, I insisted upon using LC (which worked flawlessly when I rewrote by own 1990s-era Mac-only Prograph-based testing app as cross-platform). The client insists upon maintaining the original folder/fil...

Re: Windows cursor glitch

Thanks Panos for so quick a reply.

I am indeed currently using LC Indy 8.1.3 for macOS X. I'll update once 8.1.5 is designated stable.

It's always a relief to learn that a glitch is not of one's own doing.

Best,

Windows cursor glitch

I apologize if I've failed to identify an already-existing reply to a similar question in the forum. I'm a life-long Mac user developing a cross-platform app, despite being barely able to navigate Windows on a borrowed PC. Here's the problem: Although the app works fine as a Mac standalone (using LC...

Re: Missing text fields in PDF

James and all -- I've communicated occasionally with the folks behind Marten -- admirably stalwart Prograph users -- since the mid-1990s, and I definitely encourage newer Mac programmers to check out this incarnation of Prograph. (I'm still a big fan of this visual/graphical approach, which could've...

Re: Missing text fields in PDF

Klaus and Craig -- Although I'd never posted before, I've been following these forums for nearly two years, which have helped me to solve a few problems. Thanks to all! (BTW, I learned the basics of programming via Hypertalk ca. 1989, to which I switched to the superb, yet ill-fated Prograph IDE. Li...

Missing text fields in PDF

Someone using my neuropsyc testing app -- created with Indy 7.1.3 -- has experienced a perplexing problem on a Mac laptop running macOS 10.12.3. The problem is that none of the text fields appeared in the PDF generated by my app, although the text labels and graphic items did appear. She sent me a c...
