Re: LiveCode won't run anymore

Probably the same problem - LC9 just stopped working on Windows10. Little lego "Start the Tour" man would pop-up, briefly taunt me, then LC would shut down.

Same solution - delete the LC preferences file - C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Roaming\RunRev\Preferences

Thanks for the post!

"One optionMenu to rule them all..."

I'm writing an app that needs to run on Windows desktop, and Android and iPhone. The app is going to need to have a lots (couple of hundred) of buttons that allow the user to pick from a pre-defined list of items. Typically the user will need to choose from a list of between 10 and 30 items. For Win...

Test that JSON received is valid

I'm working on an app that reads JSON from a web service. For this I'm using JSONImport, putting the JSON into a LC array and from the array into an SQLite db. It seems to work nicely. Then I thought "I really should code this so that it doesn't explode if the web service passes it invalid JSON". So...

Re: JSON to SQLite - code works, but how to improve?

After taking your advice, what I've ended up with is the below - put specialFolderPath("desktop") & "/" & inputName into tFileName put JSONImport(URL("file:" & tFileName)) into tArray If the number of elements of tArray["processed_states_list"]["Item"] > 0 then Put "INSERT into processedState(code, ...

JSON to SQLite - code works, but how to improve?

Hi. I need to read a JSON file (example below) into an SQLite table. The code below seems to work, but I suspect that there will be easier ways that I could do this. The "Insert Into" statement in particular, scare the **** out of me. I'm only working with 2 fields, and I've already gained a few add...

Re: Spacing between lines on buttons

Hi Bogs Yes, I agree. If the size of the control is fixed and the number of lines of text content is fixed, then the Property Inspector is an easy way to vertically centre the text in a field. The advantage that buttons have is that they automatically vertically centre their labels without these two...

Re: Spacing between lines on buttons

Thanks Bogs. Please let it be true ;-) It's possibly an issue of definitions. I've spotted lots of discussion on this forum, going back to 2007, on how to vertically centre text in a field; but I was under the impression that there was not a Property Inspector solution to this. You can use the Prope...

Re: Spacing between lines on buttons

Thanks Richard, Bogs & Craig I was using a button instead of a field because buttons gave me zero-script vertical centering of text. A great feature! But I can see that my work-around has created a different set of problems, so I will switch back to using fields. Unfortunately, I've also got a probl...

Spacing between lines on buttons

Hi to all. I'm just getting back into LC after a years break. I'm stuck on the simplest of things. If I have a button with the label - "Hello & return & "World", how do I reduce the (very generous) amount of white spec between the two lines of the label? I think that if it was a field then I could u...

Re: Send XML Doc to web service

Scenario is this: 1) Small organisation (about 25 employees) currently collects data from their users via emailed scans of paper forms. They want to allow their users to submit data via an app instead. Organisation can't control what hardware the user has. They want the app to work for users running...

Send XML Doc to web service

I'm wanting to create a LC app that * shows the user a data collection form * packages user submitted data into an XML document * sends (or is it "writes") the XML doc to a web service. The web service will have been created by someone else. I only want to create the data collection app. I have seen...

Re: Stack resize in Android/IOS

Sorry for the delay. I haven't been on the forums for several months. Thanks for your comments / advice. I've ended up writing my more recent android apps so that they only position graphical elements when the app first starts - and I haven't spotted any problems with this approach. It seems that in...

Solved - Encrypted Android standalone - 9 seconds to open

I realised that there was an easy solution available to me. Only 10% of my SVG widgets are "source". The other 90% of my SVG widgets are derived, by copying a source SVG widget, during the execution of my app. So I: 1) wrote a "SpringClean" handler which set the iconPath of my (approx 180) derived S...
