Re: Is it possible to animate a line

Hi Jim,

A nice solution :D . Could you also draw a circle with your method? The app I had in mind was animating Euclides Elements and for that I need to animate three things (points, lines and circles)

Re: What is the best way to learn LiveCode systematically?

1. the message path... If you came to LiveCode from HyperCard is was already in your DNA. If you come from another language you probably have to take some time to get your head around it, how messages travel through the message path and how to circumvent the regular message path by sending or dispa...

Re: What is the best way to learn LiveCode systematically?

1. The 378-page User Guide is a great place to start, available through the IDE's Help menu. How much of that have you read? 2. Given the breadth of things LiveCode is used for, once we get past the basics the path to learning the things most relevant to a given learner will vary. 3. So after you'v...

1. ... messages are sent and trapped. 2. ... difference between commands, functions and properties. 3. ... what the message path is. 4. ... you need the "put" command. Craig Thank you Craig :D Yes I agree that those are good starting points... 1. Yes LC consists of "objects" like button, field, car...

Re: What is the best way to learn LiveCode systematically?

That is because foundational knowledge is common to, and required for, all endeavors... Note that 99% is about twenty language elements... So learn the basics... Craig Newman Thank you Craig, good observations :) . Could you be little more specific 1. What exactly do you consider the foundational k...

Re: Is it possible to animate a line

Hi Dixie, The best solution yet :) :D The timing is controlled by the step size in the repeat lop. With step size of 1 I get 1.6 seconds and with step size of 2 I get 0.85 seconds. When I click on the button a small dot appeared in the upper left corner. I had to insert a set lockScreen (see code be...

Re: Is it possible to animate a line

Thanks for your answer richmond62

but when I run your stack it draws a line from 100,100 to 200,100, not to 200,200 as I need. Is it possible to modify your script so that line is drawn i other direction than horizontal?

Also when I run your code it takes more then one second to draw the line.

Re: Is it possible to animate a line

Hi Simon, Thanks for your solution, it is very good :D I had to tweak it though. It was very difficult to get any precision in the when it came to timing (I am used to program with Cocoa and iOS and LC is VERY SLOW in comparison) . On the one hand we want many points, but on the other hand the line ...

Is it possible to animate a line

Is it possible to draw a line in LC from a point A (say 100,100) to a point B (say 200,200) in a certain time (say 1 second)

So this animation should start as a single point at point A, and then grow as a line until it reaches point B after 1 second.

Re: Where to put needed resources

Thanks Jean-Marc, very good advice. But could you explain what you mean by
All images, texts and sounds are referenced to a file
I do not understand what this means. What kind of file are you referring to? A single file or what?

Where to put needed resources

In many other programming environments (Xcode for instance) you add resources that your project will need like images, sounds and so on to your project. How do you do corresponding thing in LC? I was thinking of having a card called Resources, which user never sees, but where I could import my contr...

Re: writing multiple lines of script via message box

Hi I'm new to LC as well, Try this 1. create two cards. On card 2 make a field called hiddenField (or something like this) that you can hide and inside it enter on mouseUp answer "Hello world" end mouseUp 2. Then in the message box write create button set script of button 1 to field hiddenField of c...

Re: Save on Desktop instead of Applications folder

Thanks Jacque, this is brilliant :!: This will make it possible to make my own box of ready made scripts to use each time I create a new stack.
