### Routines for very large numbers.

Hi all, I have a test project that needs to calculate very large numbers (30-50 digit plus). I have been running into problems with the accuracy of LC manipulating these numbers as they do not come out correctly calculated. After much research I found out from a few posts LC's built in function does...

### Re: Most efficient way to convert data to binary/base2

I'm not sure binaryencode() works that way. From the dictionary example: charToNum(binaryEncode("B*","01111111")) -- returns 127 But how do you do the reverse of this? To get the ASCII/number or char into binary/base2 using this function. Still looking into it. Maybe someone can shed some more light...

### Most efficient way to convert data to binary/base2

Hi all, I am trying to find the most efficient way to convert data whether it be text or image data into base 2 binary. However the methods I have research don't seem to be very efficient and was hoping for another method or function to use. current solution: chartonum(data) baseconvert(data,10,2) a...

### Re: Using variables in mysql functions

What error do you get? Looks like you can only use literal values in the parameters, not function calls. Pete No errors. For the literal the result is 1 and for the var the result is 0. I find using "merge" to create the sql is easier to follow when using variables and the ' Like so: put merge("sel...

### Re: In Search of the Elusive Middleware Example

I hear you Richard and agree. Time is always a factor in any voluntary role. Maybe a request can be made to RunRev to get a official tutorial done as this could help a lot of people looking to develop and join the live code ranks. 8) Presently I am still in the investigating level of this example. S...

### Re: Why No "on openGroup" etc message

Thanks Klaus,

Sort of what I was looking for. Looking for a message to be sent when a group become visible. Can not see much in regards to this.

Maybe you can add something I am missing as openbackground is only sent when you go to a card

Thanks

### Re: Using variables in mysql functions

I still get some issues with adding NOW() or TIMESTAMPS to date and time fields in mysql and LC. If its part of a variable it does not update the field but a literal works fine. See below for example. (DOES NOT WORK) put "NOW()" into thetimedate put "1" into tBID put "Update b SET date_time_field=(:...

### Re: ANDROID: APK & OBB expansion management

Yes you are right about this limitation and it would be good to implement. In the mean time my workaround for this was to a have a server and download the content I needed separately rather than using the OBB expansion.

### Why No "on openGroup" etc message

Hi All, I have been using LC for a while now and use the groups feature quite a lot. However I find that we can use groups like a control or a card or even a stack. So I was thinking why would you not add the feature to have "openGroup" or c"loseGroup" messages etc. This would seem like a logical st...

### Re: Using variables in mysql functions

So in essence LC will add the single quotes automatically if there is a var list with a placeholder? Great to understand the inner workings of LC a little better.

Thanks Mark

### Re: In Search of the Elusive Middleware Example

I think this discussion was very helpful and should be made into a official livecode tutorial. Maybe one of the mods could do this?

### Re: Using variables in mysql functions

Hey Mark, They say "The punch that you don't see is the one that knocks you out" in this case it was the single quotes :D Thanks fellow, works fine now. Still have no idea why I needed to remove the single quotes. As every example I have seen in mysql requires them. In any case thanks again Mark for...

### Re: Using variables in mysql functions

Very strange Sorry Craig I have always followed the documentation and the example below is from the documentation. local tImageData put the text of image "MyImage" into tImageData get revDataFromQuery(, , myID, "SELECT size FROM images WHERE imagedata = :1", "*btImageData") or get revDataFromQuery(,...

### Re: Using variables in mysql functions

Thanks Craig I have tried this below and the same result. The "date" var was just a example and would never use date as a var. I have tried the below and the same issue. It returns empty. global theID on mouseUp local t put "'"&"2013-04-04"&"'" into t answer t with "okay" put "SELECT TIMESTAMPDIFF(M...

### Re: Using variables in mysql functions

Hi Mark, Sorry for being a little short. The query should return the number of months between the two dates. If I use two dates in the MySQL query it works fine. However if I introduce a date in a var the result is empty. There seems to be a problem reading the var when called in a function. Maybe m...
