Saving "Bundle-Type" Documents

Is it possible to have my LiveCode (MacOS desktop) app save a document as a 'bundle'? AFAIK, bundles are just directories, but there must be something special that needs to be done so that the system recognises the directory as a 'bundle file', rather than as a simple directory. Is this something po...

Klaus, you're a gem: the effective filename and the environment were exactly what I was looking for!

Thank you so much! :-)

Side note: man, you've helped SO MANY people in these forums! You're amazing!

Path to a Copied File in Mac Standalone

I am developing a stack that is a GUI for a command-line tool, for MacOS X. I want to include the command-line tool itself with my standalone build. I have added the command-line tool file in the "Copy Files" pane of the Standalone Application Settings dialog. When I build the standalone, it is inde...

Re: LC Shell Script Outputs Only One Line to Terminal

Ok, I found the source of the problem, so I'm posting it here for everyone else's benefit. Apparently, different platforms (Win, Mac, Linux) use different characters for 'return' (line ending). Windows, in particular, uses "cr" or "crlf" while the other systems use "lf". LiveCode has a property, the...

Re: Command-Line Only Standalone?

Are you compiling the binary from the command line? How do you do that?! If not, where do you enter this parameter?

Your guidance is truly appreciated.

Command-Line Only Standalone?

Is it possible to create a command-line only standalone binary with LiveCode, or does the created app either have to be a GUI app, or a script that is parsed by livecode-server? Is it possible to create a faceless daemon, or a command-line tool?

Re: How to Pass Parameters to LC Shell Script?

I don't understand: of you're starting the script worth one param, wouldn't you expect the param count to be 1? Indeed. As I described, if I pass a single parameter, $# is "1", but the parameter gets placed in $0 , not in $1 , as described both by you, and the Dictionary. According to the Dictionar...

Re: LC Shell Script Outputs Only One Line to Terminal

The problem described in the posting above is being experienced with LC Server 6.6.1. I wonder whether this is a unicode-related problem - ie., a problem with the programatically-created return characters not being in the right encoding when sent to the Terminal. The screenshot in this post seems to...

Re: How to Pass Parameters to LC Shell Script?

Thank you, Richard - that was a very useful reply. The server is not erring when asked to solve 'param', 'params' or the 'paramCount' - there is apparently no output being sent to stdErr - it just seems to be caught in an infinite loop. I need to 'ctrl-Z' to get it to stop. I get a feeling this shou...

How to Pass Parameters to LC Shell Script?

How can I pass a parameter to a .lc script I'm running from Terminal? How do I get this parameter in my script? If I place any of the functions param , params or paramCount it seem to freeze the server - ie., the execution of the script stops at that line, and I have to force-quit it. Any help would...

LC Shell Script Outputs Only One Line to Terminal

I have managed to setup Livecode Server successfully in my Mac, so I can use .lc files as shell scripts. I can put a shebang line at the top of the file, and it gets processed by the appropriate server binary. The problem is that I am getting unexpected output in the terminal, and I don't know wheth...

Re: Interactive Shell Scripting in OS X

Ok, it seems Monte is correct: you *can* use "open process" in OS X - the docs need to be updated. I'm still stuck, however. Let's say, for instance, that I want to script an ssh connection to server "example.com", as user "admin", using password "password". In the Terminal you'd use the command: ss...

Interactive Shell Scripting in OS X

It seems the only way to run a unix command on OS X from LiveCode is to use the shell() function, right? Unfortunately, shell() does not seem to allow for interactive commands that require user input - i.e., via stdin - such as starting an ssh session, or running a command with sudo (both of these u...

Re: Complex selection queries on multiple tables

A couple of generic hints, which may or may not be useful: 1) You will need to sort, order and summarise your data. There are 2 places where the sorting, ordering and grouping can be done: either at the database level, or inside LiveCode, once you get your raw data into it. Databases are written for...
