Re: FTP and security

Matthias, If I understand what I'm reading in the (sometimes arcane) docs in order to use SSL/TLS I need to generate a Private Key and a Certificate. I've generated the Key and will shortly try generating a self-signed Certificate. I will then try doing FTPeS using one of my website builder applicat...

Re: FTP and security

I think I will be a bit clearer about what I'm doing as it may elicit additional responses. I'm technically inclined (programming for decades) but ignorant with respect to website hosting and related services. I have a few domain names hosted by LiveCode and would like to experiment with putting sim...

FTP and security

Looking at the cPanel documentation I am warned that FTP is insecure and it is suggested that I instead use a secure methodology, e.g., SFTP. The documentation ("How to Configure Your SFTP Client") includes a Private Key section that says: cPanel users can generate and download a private key via cPa...

Re: XML data binding libraries (or ability to call Java)?

Mark,

Thanks for your reply.

I've used routines similar to the ones you describe in LiveCode (from VB libraries for VBA macros that I've written) and, as my father used to say: "it's better than a kick in the head".

Still, one does get spoiled by the good things in life.

XML data binding libraries (or ability to call Java)?

Not sure if this is the correct forum for this query ... if not, my apologies. Whatever one may think of Java it has a lot of infrastructure (e.g., libraries and tools) associated with it. One support library/tool set that I've found especially useful is Java XML data binding libraries (e.g., I use ...

Re: Does a Sparkle-like library exist for LiveCode?

Jan, Thanks for the response. I will look into GLX. Richard (FourthWorld), Thanks Richard, I did realize that but I like the idea of Sparkle more than the idea of the MacApp store <g> ... or, slightly more seriously, the Sparkle updating experience is superior to the iPhone/iPad app store updating e...

Does a Sparkle-like library exist for LiveCode?

In the Cocoa universe there exists a framework called Sparkle. It allows the embedding of a self-updating capability within an application. If you've used many applications you've seen it in action (even if you don't realize it). It's a great framework for Cocoa. It's free and worthy of support (I'm...
