Re: Chi-square

To make any possible answer easier, what I try to do is perform the chi-square test on the distribution of a certain feature along the year. The expected results (given that the feature is climate independent, etc) would be the same for all 30 days months (30 * total) / 365, 31 days months (31 * tot...

Chi-square

This is a long shot, I know: is there a LiveCode stack already mad that helps the user to perform the chi-square test on the user on his or her own data?

Re: background and foreground

Naturally, LiveCode is an incomparably more developed environment, and many ways come to mind to do the same thing, but what is the most elegant and cost-effective way to use the same background shared by all the "cards" in a stack? Could you point me to a good example of a LiveCode stack where thi...

background and foreground

There was a programming environment for the Mac many years ago... well, surely no one remembers it, but the fact is that in this environment, which was also based on the concept of a stack, there was a basic opposition between background and card (foreground). This was very useful for applications s...

How can AppleScript be used to trigger JavaScript functions inside of a web page?
I don't think you can (but I'm not an expert on AppleScript)

Re: Using "send to program" to open & download. webpage

Thanks so much, as always, Craig, Richrad, for your answers Richard. In you opinion, then, what benefit does the "Send to Program" command still offer? I found it hobbled to say the least. Craig In my opinion, this is a nice example of the situation where you would appreciate something akin to the "...

Re: Using "send to program" to open & download. webpage

Hi Craig, What program would you think would be at the other end? Something like "send "openThis" to program "Safari" with "XURL"? Exactly this. Send "OpenThis" to (a modern browser) with ThisURL *and* then another instruction to download the uploaded page (which is a page created after a PHP request)

Using "send to program" to open & download. webpage

Is there a way to use LC's "send to program" (on a Mac) to first open then download a WebPage providing the URL?

Re: Downloading dynamic web pages

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I'm not an expert but I do have some experience with Bootstrap. And yet I wouldn't know how to solve he problem. Actually this problem seem to appear for most sites using PHP I'm finding in a quick survey. For instance, this one (a much simpler page): https://logeion.uchic...

Re: Downloading dynamic web pages

Thanks FourthWorld, Emily-Elizabeth. An example of a page that doesn't download well may be this one https://www.dicciogriego.es/index.php#lemas?lema=801&n=801 OTOH, and regarding Emily-Elizabeth suggestion, I'd appreciate an example of the actual code used in a script to set the User-Agent header t...

Downloading dynamic web pages

Most webpages today are dynamic (and when they are not, I always feel some nostalgia for the lost Internet golden years past :) Anyway, when I try to download one of these dynamic pages (generated or not by PHP) using LC (with get URL or libURLDownloadToFile) I usually get nothing but rubbish: eithe...

Re: Digital Humanities projects using LiveCode

I posted que original query because I wanted to know (I still want to know) about Digital Humanities programs made with LiveCode; I can't believe that @Owlstown and myself are the only digital humanists working with LiveCode to this day! On the other hand, I am preparing an introductory course to Di...

Re: Digital Humanities projects using LiveCode

LiveCode (as a programming environment + language) is ideal for data analysis, and for other aspects of linguistics Absolutely agreed. LC is such a powerful tool for text manipulation it always seemed strange to me it is no much better known among linguists & philologists alike (its handling of Uni...
