Re: Buttons and backgrounds

Mark and Curry, Thank you both for your help here in defining how to cut or copy and paste cards. In case anyone ever needs them here are three functions that do the trick. For the moment they are each a button function and part of the main stack group but once I get around to fixing up menus I can ...

Re: Buttons and backgrounds

Mark and Curry, Yes, I understand that a database approach (rather than a card approach) has merit. But right now I need to port 40,000 cards in two stacks and another dozen stacks of code and get that working so I can maintain a production line. And yes, I want to start with similar content and mak...

Re: Buttons and backgrounds

For copying cards: copy card, navigate to another card where you want to insert, then paste. (No editing groups.) This does not work as advertised. A card resembling the copied card is pasted but it has a new group that is unique to this card. I need it to have the same group as the card copied. Or ...

Re: Buttons and backgrounds

I do appreciate the help. Your extracts are in bf: Editing groups and copying and pasting cards are not related. In Revolution, groups contain only controls, not cards. A group is a collection of buttons and fields templates but no content. Yes? Groups can be placed on cards, but you can't place car...

Re: Buttons and backgrounds

I just tried the

clone this card

That's very sweet and I'm sure I will use it a lot.

But it is still frequently necessary to copy a card, move it someplace, and then change it around some.

Re: Buttons and backgrounds

Lets see then: Trial 1 Menu: Edit uncheck Select Group Controls Message Box: copy this card Go to where to put in. Change cursor to editing cursor Select the group by clicking on the screen Menu: Edit Paste Objects This successfully pastes in a new card, a copy of what is in all the fields, but it a...

Re: Buttons and backgrounds

Curry I will try the script approach to look for bad backgrounds.

But what about the first question: Is there a way to copy and paste cards within a stack without creating a new group/background?

Re: Speed Question

No.

Interesting that your menu and cut and paste is more or less immediate.

Re: Buttons and backgrounds

Okay, I think I got it, sort of. Thank you both Mark and Curry. But in the process I think that some of the cards I created seem to have (identical looking) but different backgrounds (groups). Don't worry about the backup business; I've been doing this kind of thing a long time. In HC it is also pos...

Re: Buttons and backgrounds

Okay, thanks for the guidance but this is not working yet. I uncheck Edit>Group I go into the editing, not operational cursor. I copy the button I want to paste into the group. I click on the group. I click "Place Group" and the stack I'm in. And that doesn't work. I have one button I want to paste ...

Re: Speed Question

Mark, what I mean is that it is a legal copy, not some bootleg. The user interface has already been real slow. I'm using a MacBook Pro 2.8 ghz, sounds similar.

Re: Stacks getting contaminated with other stacks

Hummm, I don't see that.

As for defaultstack, that command is not used.

I can't identify when the problem materialized.

There seems to be something where stacks can have names which are different than their filenames and I wonder if that is a contributing factor.

Re: Buttons and backgrounds

To edit a group, uncheck "Select grouped controls" in the Edit menu. DONE. and click on the group. NOT SURE WHAT THAT MEANS. I HAVE THE TOOL CURSOR IN THE EDIT MORE, NOT THE OPERATE MODE. Now choose Edit Group from the Objects menu. THIS IS GRAYED OUT, SO I AM UNABLE TO FOLLOW FURTHER. ??? Now you c...
