Re: how to detect that Stack dimension is changed

At the risk of seeming stupid (err, surely not?), I wonder what the utility of detecting stack resizes within mouseStillDown routines actually is. I am trying to think of a situation where (with the obvious exception of a mouseDown on a resize handle of a stack window) a stack might resize while an ...

Re: how to detect that Stack dimension is changed

If you are going to want this in mouseStillDown routines
you will have to put bogs' code into a global and not a local.

Re: LiveCode Programmer Competency Matrix

Possibly.

However, over in Britain "flapjacks" are something else (and very good they are, too).

Re: LiveCode Programmer Competency Matrix

OK, OK: I'll retract that . . . I gather than the North Americans tend to call Drop Scones , Flapjacks , just as the English tend to call Drop Scones , Pancakes . Of course, as in programming, there is no such thing as Subjectivity , we ALL know they Drop Scones . :D - stack.jpg - A Drop Scone ! Or,...

Re: LiveCode Programmer Competency Matrix

I am well aware of the underpinnings of computer programming, but not to the point where, unlike some people: your flapjacks I know that you DON'T use wheat flour when you're making flapjacks: - flaps.png - And, perhaps I should point out, I don't use either wheat or rolled oats in my LiveCode progr...

Re: LiveCode Programmer Competency Matrix

Just like any other test. Possibly . . . in some parts of the world . . . Over "here" (Bulgaria) and my experience in KSA and the UAE, I have found that exams test learning and retention only, and a very high proportion of those who score highly in those tests cannot apply any of that at all in rea...

Re: LiveCode Programmer Competency Matrix

should have some idea of the steps involved Indeed. But the question is how "deep" is it necessary to go? For the sake of argument: I can program reasonably well, and have programmed reasonably well, on-and-off for 44 years (ouch!). At no time, either in 1975 when I started with MiniFortran and FOR...

Re: LiveCode Programmer Competency Matrix

I think at the very least Err, yes, I think from time to time as well. 8) What LiveCode has done (or, to be fair, what HyperCard did and LiveCode propagated) is dejargonise a lot of terminology, and as such, many LiveCode people who are really reasonably competent programmers, while knowing many of...

Re: LiveCode Programmer Competency Matrix

That matrix seems really odd as in some areas I'm at the front, and in others I'm well to the back. Certainly, with regard to LiveCode, some of those sections seem strikingly irrelevant: Doesn't know what a compiler, linker or interpreter is Does one need to know what these are to work with LiveCode...

Re: 32 bites and a sore finger

Oddly enough, I was introduced to the Archie comics by my good friend Charles Singh when we were sharing a house in Al Ain, UAE; he, having been brought up with English as his first language in India had access to them; while I, growing up with English as one of my 2 first languages in Britain, did ...

Re: textChanged is not invoked after cutting text

Cut

does not behave in the same way as delete
because delete involves an insertion point in a field
while cut involves selectedText.

Re: 32 bites and a sore finger

From a selfish point of view this means I am going to have to continue developing my Devawriter Pro app on older software with LC 8.1.10 and then transfer the stack over to my Mojave box to hive off 64-bit standalone builds for Mac. I wonder how (?) LC 9 and up will cope with building 32-bit Windows...

Re: 32 bites and a sore finger

Aha . . .

LiveCode 8.1.10 DOES work, but probably in some sort of sub-optimal way.
