Re: Future of LC?

I was quoting Richmond.
Well, before you get set in some sort of stereotyped groove, if you read my "moans"
you will see that they ALL come down to lack of communication on LiveCode's half.

Re: Future of LC?

It's clear that this is not important at all to anybody in this forum and While not many folk hereabouts may feel the lack of a 2D Physics engine they should be fussed by LiveCode's failure to deliver on fund-raiser promises, and they should seriously consider whether they are prepared to "donate" ...

Re: Future of LC?

I'm not here to argue, or trash LC. In fact, I love LiveCode and recommend it fairly often, but I still think both of my criticisms in this thread are valid. The "only" problem is that any time one levels even a slight criticism against LiveCode, however well-intentioned it is, umbrage is taken. Th...

Re: Future of LC?

"Disingenuous" is not always as strong as lying: it can mean simply leaving out certain bits of information.

Re: Future of LC?

I, too, don't think LiveCode will be disappearing in the short-term.

What I do see, unfortunately, is that it will remain at a lower rung on the popularity ladder
than I feel it should owing to lack of promotion.

Re: Future of LC?

the free trial is the complete proprietary version OK: but what advantages does that have for a teacher who is "only" teaching kids how to program? It also seems bit disingenuous that, for education purposes, the Open Source version is not given centre-stage. Many schools and/or education authoriti...

Re: Future of LC?

What I do NOT understand is why, LiveCode being so comparatively easy to learn, such a good language for teaching, and so on, why it just does not seem to be gaining any traction in the educational sector. Of course part of the problem could be LiveCode's website giving out odd information: - ed1.pn...

Re: Future of LC?

One would like to think that if LiveCode, the company, went bust, they would be able to pass on the thing to some other developers. This discussion, however, is not really about the future of LiveCode (as in the language as it now exists) but the future continued development of the language and the ...

Re: learn transcript

I don't think the LiveCode language is called 'Transcript' any more: as far as I know, last time I looked, it was called . . . wait for it, wait for it . . . 'LiveCode'. - https://thumbs.gfycat.com/BlushingEdibleAlligatorgar-size_restricted.gif - And using a search engine to look for 'transcript' wi...

Re: Ugly looking controls on iPhone

Personally, in none of my public release software do I use default controls. This is because I deploy my software across multiple platforms: Macintosh, Linux and Windows, and have no way of guaranteeing that any end-user's system has the fonts I like installed. I have a "thing" about Macintosh Charc...

Re: Detecting popup keyboard on Windows 10

I wonder if it might not be a good thing if . . .

There were some way LiveCode could detect screen estate being occupied by any Window, Widget or Whatever.

At present there is an inconvenient inconsistency both in-platform and cross-platform which makes the whole exercise a bit pointless.

Re: Feature Exchange: Infinite LiveCode

I don't know about "slackerly" or otherwise, but if you undertake to clean out the byre because its full of skitter from last winter, and later I come out to look and find you building a greenhouse to grow tomatoes instead, it really doesn't matter how hard you have been working: I'll still rip your...

Re: Whatever happened to . . . . .

you write in disjointed snippets As I teach English to Primary children all day, and am extremely careful to use a reduced vocabulary, enunciate everything carefully and repeat everything 3 times, I assume that I can relax "over here" and write things differently.
