Re: ASK Command Return Button means "OK"

Are you using a "software" scanner or a hardware scanner with your Android phone? I tested both solutions and they work on a computer. My scanner does not connect/input into my cellphone so I could not fully test it under Android. You might have to set the focus to the field and turn off the keyboar...

Re: ASK Command Return Button means "OK"

But the ask is in the button. I assume that the user presses a button to select if they are using a scanner or entering the number by hand. My point is that he does not need the buttons to choose. All he needs is a field with that code in it. It will handle a number entered manually or using a scann...

Re: ASK Command Return Button means "OK"

Instead of a button, just put this code into the script of the field "field_EAN": on returnInField (put your code to process the number here) end returnInField and on enterInField (put your code to process the number here) end enterInField it will handle the number when it receives the "return" or "...

Re: custom answer boxes

You can also modify fields using the htmlText property. See #2 on this webpage - https://sites.google.com/a/pgcps.org/livecode/home/communicatingwiththeuser/html but the most common use of it is for showing HTML content without the HTML tags. See #3 on the same webpage - https://sites.google.com/a/p...

Re: custom answer boxes

It is easier to create your own "dialog". It just takes a substack that you set as "modal". It can replace your "ask" or "answer" dialog. Modal - for blocking other actions A modal dialog box is a window/stack that blocks all other actions as long as the stack is displayed. An example is "Ask" and "...

Re: Interesting review of Lc

Thank you for posting the link. It is a good review to show to people, especially those questioning the use of LiveCode over other languages. It also gives rise to some ideas: 1. Approach Linux distributors and see if we can get LiveCode included in some distributions. It may not lead in that many p...

One of these may be a good starting point. Add a ruler object and the logic to control it

Either: 1) He was trying to interject some levity into a very serious discussion. Having some fun by adding humor and creativity to the thread. I have done the same. Or 2) He was acting out of frustration. When people feel that they are not being listened to or taken seriously, they react. What was ...

Re: New beginnings...

Good point. That is one of the strengths of LiveCode. Not only is it an easy starter language, but because it is script driven,it is a good transition to harder and more traditional languages like Python and Java. I found out the same with my classes. When we started with Python first, some students...

Re: Is livecode dead?

One of the main complaints in many recent posts is that the web page does not do LiveCode justice and may be one of reasons why LiveCode is not more popular. It has been said My personal tastes also had me question the Minecraft-looking figures and the pop-up, the whole presentation. But when I disc...

Re: Why do so few schools try LiveCode...?

Maybe we need to approach this from another direction - and make use of the many tutorials that Elanor and others have done: from an interesting blog https://computinged.wordpress.com/2017/12/04/prediction-the-majority-of-us-high-school-students-will-take-cs-classes-online-csedweek/ I don’t know tha...

Re: Why do so few schools try LiveCode...?

Fourth World: You brought up some very good ideas and recommendations. Scratch and Java notwithstanding, I think that Edu. LiveCode could be self-supporting and even profitable. In evidence: 1. Employers, parents and students are clamoring for more computer classes and more women and minorities in p...

Re: Why do so few schools try LiveCode...?

You said: That's a well thought out work plan. What would you estimate is the number of hours needed to complete it? It is not a single project but an iterative process. We could start simple and build on it #1 - LiveCode already knows some of the teachers that are using LiveCode in the classroom. T...
